GARY FAGAN Obituary

FAGAN, Gary It is with the deepest sorrow we share that Gary J. Fagan passed away on Sunday, June 11th after a courageous battle with cancer. He'd been battling his late stage cancer for quite a few years, but it finally got the best of him on Sunday evening. You, his friends close by, know how courageous he was throughout, keeping his sense of humor and showing us how amazingly strong he was with every ordeal. Gary's biggest blessing was his wonderful friends (old and new) who showed him what love means. His most recent blessing is the phenomenal new friends, in the medical field and out, who entered his life at the second most intimate and delicate time and brightened his life and helped him with their heartfelt kindness. Some of them were here all along, right in our own backyard. Gary was born August 7, 1951 to John E. Fagan and Lois (Foster) Fagan of Dover, New Hampshire. He is survived by his wife, Susan Fagan of Marblehead, Massachusetts. Also survived is his brother Mark R. Fagan and his wife Elaine of Stratham, New Hampshire and daughters Julie K. Fagan of Boston, Massachusetts and Kelly L. Frattaroli and her husband Philip of Boston, Massachusetts and baby Olivia. Gary attended Saint Thomas Aquinas High School in Dover, NH, graduated from The University of New Hampshire in 1974, and continued to receive his Master's Degree from University of California at San Francisco where he also earned his PhD in Immunology. Dr. Gary Fagan's professional accomplishments in medical research over the past forty years included identifying and licensing rights to proprietary immunodiagnostic reagents as well as business development activities including sponsoring research projects at major academic institutions. His speciality was technical development and assay troubleshooting. All that being noted he also was an accomplished acoustical guitarist and all around great guy. Visiting Hours: Friends and family are invited to attend Gary's funeral mass Monday, June 26, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Parish of the Assumption St. Joseph Church, 150 Central Avenue in Dover, New Hampshire. Services will conclude at the burial at St. Mary New Cemetery at 43 Dover Point Road in Dover, New Hampshire. If preferred, in lieu of flowers donations may be made in Gary's name to either… The American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 42040, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-3000 or the Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center, 102 Endicott Street, Danvers, MA 01923 Please go to www.taskerfh.com to sign the online guestbook.

So sorry to hear of his passing. I have been out of touch with Gary for a long time, but I do still remember those summers hanging out at Hampton when we were all much younger with his cousin Jim and a few others from Dover. It was a really fun time for us all. May he rest in peace

To Susan and the Fagan family:
I met Gary in 1978 when I moved to San Francisco from Arlington, Mass. We lived in the same apartment building and he and I became fast friends. He introduced me to his fellow student Stu Kipper and the three of us had many laughs and adventures in the City-by-the-Bay. I regret not staying in touch...I am sorry for his loss but I am pleased to see that he had such a productive life and loving family and friends.

Gary was a fine man, a great scientist, and a wonderful friend. Those of us who were fortunate enough to work with him in the past few years marveled at his courage and grace as he fought his illness. He will be greatly missed. Deepest sympathies to his family and his many friends.
