GEORGE HOGUET Obituary

HOGUET, George Roberts Of Brookline, MA, passed away on September 23, 2025. He was the devoted husband of his wife, Marie, for 53 years; and the loving father of three sons: Ramsay Hoguet of Malden, MA, Bruno Hoguet of Wellesley, MA and Gabriel Hoguet of Beverly, MA. He was the proud grandfather of Miles, Max and Pepper Hoguet. George was born in New York City and attended Harvard College and Harvard Business School. An overland trip from Paris to Mombasa, Kenya, right after college sparked his lifelong interest in economic development, policy, and finance. His career as a finance professional spanned investment banking, government, pension fund consulting, and portfolio management. In the first Reagan Administration, he served in the U.S. Treasury Department, as Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for International Affairs and represented the United States at the World Bank. Over the course of his career, George lived in New York, London, Paris, Washington, D.C., Tacoma, WA, and Boston. He spent several years as a portfolio manager and investment strategist at State Street Global Advisors, the asset management subsidiary of State Street Corporation. Beyond his professional accomplishments, George was deeply committed to civic and intellectual life. He served on the boards of St. David's School in New York, the CFA Society of Boston, and the Middle East Institute and was active in many community and professional organizations. After 43 years in the financial services industry, he retired and, at the age of 73, earned an MA degree in Economics from Boston University: an achievement that reflected his enduring curiosity and love of learning. George's interests extended far beyond economics and finance. He was an avid traveler, a lifelong reader, and a lover of history, the arts, and spirited conversation. He loved sailing, skiing and hiking: passions that he shared with his wife and passed down to his children and grandchildren. He treasured time spent with family and friends, especially during extended cocktail hours and around the dinner table. In addition to his immediate family, he is survived by his sister, Constance Hoguet of New York; and his brother, Robert Hoguet of New York. There will be a private Burial on Saturday, September 27, and a Memorial Service will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Boston University Department of Economics, an institution that brought him much pride and meaning in his later years. George will be remembered for his intellectual curiosity, devotion to family, and generosity of spirit. He will be deeply missed.

Oh gosh! This is such a upsetting surprise. George was a stellar person. There is a lot more I could say but it is too distressing right now to think of it all.

Dear Hoguet Family,

We were deeply saddened to learn of George´s passing. In addition to enjoying and experiencing his intellectual curiosity, his smile, sense of humor and lightness of spirit were a joy to behold. His support and the brilliant conversation he hosted with Ben Bernanke when he was Chair of CFA Society Boston will always be remembered.

With deepest sympathies and prayers,

Jeff & Patti Augustine
