I recently went to a gallery show of much of his work and was surprised to be so impressed at the breadth and depth of his output, and also, in many of them, at the sheer technical and imaginative skills. I own a few paintings of his but now want to own a few more.
The visit otherwise brought back long-ago memories of visiting Gerry, having a drink, discussing the Midwest, delving the Hopperlike loneliness of some of the scenes.... I had not known of or at least seen the buildings he helped design, the portraiture (including almost a Sargent parody, of Lady Agnew), the boat and automotive wreckage piles, and even a couple of apocalyptic visions.
Anyway, it all sure made his absence all the keener.

We are really very sorry to hear about this late, having been friends with the Fosters for many years in Lincoln and grateful, admiring owners of several of his fine and lonesome paintings.

Though we never had the distinct pleasure of actually meeting Mr.Foster, through his Daughter Shelby and Family we have heard so much of his artistic talents ...seems we had in Common our respect for Provincetown art work where he studied ...Such a sudden passing leaves a huge void ... may his spirit continue on in everyone´s hearts especially those of his partner Candice , his children & their families ...and four fabulous grandchildren....Your charismatic smile shall live on ....
