LAMONTAGNE, Gregory A. Of Woburn, March 5th at fifty-six years of age. Beloved husband of Joanna Gonsalves. Cherished son of Joseph H. and Barbara (O'Rourke) Lamontagne of Montreal. Devoted father of Rebecca and Reneé Gonsalves-Lamontagne of Woburn. Dear brother of Christopher Lamontagne, his wife Star Gabe. Special uncle of Olivia and Sabrina Lamontagne, Sard Tancredi, Gabrielle and Lucas Gonsalves and Rahul Khopkar. A Funeral will be held from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, WOBURN, Friday, March 9th at 9:00 a.m. followed by Mass in St. Charles Church, 280 Main Street, Woburn at 10. Interment in Calvary Cemetery, Winchester. I had Greg as a student during my first year of teaching at McGill (1984-1985). He was in my first Syntax 1 class in the Fall and in my first Syntax 2 class in the Winter. I am now in my last semester of teaching (giving Syntax 2) and I still remember Greg fondly, In fact I had just mentioned him in my class as an example of how good a linguist one can be while still being an undergraduate. In Syntax 2, Greg and I started a discussion that lasted several years and ended up producing five talks and three co-authored papers. He was a wonderful linguist to work with and a wonderful person to know. My thoughts are with his family -- they have lost someone very special.

I worked with Greg when he was at CCRI and I was at Rhode Island College. He was a gentleman and a scholar, with a good sense of humor and a friendliness that's hard to find. My sympathies to his family; I am sorry for your loss.

I met Greg when we were students at McGill University, but we became friends when we were both graduate students in the Linguistics program at U. Mass. Greg affected me in many ways. He was a great friend, willing to discuss linguistics and most anything else, and had a great sense of humor. We worked together on a paper and it was marvelous to watch Greg think.
He had a profound understanding of linguistics and many other topics as well. Beyond being a friend, he was an inspiration in many ways. I was always comfortable confiding in him and he was always very giving with his time. We have not been in touch in recent years, but I will always very fondly remember my interactions with Greg.

My condolences to Joanna, Rebecca, Rene and all of his family.

Greg and I graduated the same year from McGill as undergrads, him going to the University of Massachussetts to do phonology and me to the University of Maryland to do syntax. Greg was a great linguist who had a deep love for poetry. After a few years of the itinerant linguist gig he decided to switch to a career in community college administration, something which brought him closer to students from diverse backgrounds, which I think he really related to a lot. We lost touch over the past few years, but Greg was a great friend during my years at McGill and Maryland.

Greg was a graduate student at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. I remember how lively he was, and how long his generals paper was! It was a great pleasure to see him and Joanna again at a reception a few years ago when our department moved to a new building.

Although Chris had let us know when Greg had been hospitalized, it still came as an incredible shock to learn Greg had passed away. I had not seen Greg since we were kids, but Chris and I do exchange family updates whenever we get together. While Shirley and I are unable to attend the services, please accept my most sincere condolences to all the family during this time of tremendous sorrow. I know Greg was a special person to all people who knew him.

I am so saddened to hear of this loss. I worked with Greg at the Community College of Rhode Island and so much enjoyed his intelligence, his wit, and his never ending enthusiasm. He will be so missed.
