DR. HENRY SEARS LODGE Jr.

LODGE, Dr. Henry Sears "Harry" Jr. Succumbed to cancer on March 10th, 2017. An accomplished and respected physician, professor, author, friend, and father, he was holder of the Robert Burch Chair of Medicine at Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons, Dr. Lodge established New York Physicians, an innovative independent multi-specialty university-based medical group practice. Seeking to make medicine more accessible, he founded the Columbia Public Voices Fellowship Program. In honor of Dr. Lodge, Gilbert Butler recently established the Primary Care Endowment Fund to support the training of primary care doctors.

Dr. Lodge graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Pennsylvania in 1981 and then joined the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University. In 1985 he received his MD degree and was awarded the Robert F. Loeb Award for outstanding performance. He completed his internship and residency at the now New York Presbyterian Hospital, and in 1988 was certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, with an added qualification in Geriatrics in 1989. He was a fellow of the American College of Physicians and the New York Academy of Science.

A devoted mentor and caring doctor, he shared his empathy, self-deprecating wit, and compassion unsparingly with his patients, friends and family, and was an exceptionally devoted father. He was an avid outdoorsman, with a lifelong passion for bicycling and for any time he could spend on the water.

He is survived by his mother, Elenita Lodge, his daughters, Madeleine and Samantha Lodge and their mother, Teresa Goetz, his sister Felicity Lodge and her husband Carl Bielenberg, his two brothers John and Frederick Lodge and their wives Elizabeth and Susan, five devoted nieces and nephews and his life partner Laura Yorke and her sons Elliott and Coleman Snyder. He was predeceased by his father, Henry Sears Lodge.

A memorial service will be held at noon on April 10th at All Souls Church, 1157 Lexington Avenue, New York, New York.
