HENRY VITALE Obituary

VITALE, Henry F. Sr. Of Revere and East Boston, passed away at Mass General & Brigham Hospital on Thursday, June 17, 2021, surrounded by his loving family. He was 86 years old. He started his career as a printer and worked several years as union representative at National Press, in Boston. On August 4, 1973 Henry was elected President of the Boston Typographical Union, responsible for over ten thousand members. He led with courage, served with integrity and always acted with concern and respect for all union members. Henry was the Union President for 41 years and a member of the Executive Board in the Typographical Union. He also was a member of the Wage and Scale Negotiating Committee, as well as the Union's delegate to multiple International Conventions, President of The Allied Printing Trades Council and a certified AFL-CIO Union counselor. Henry acted as labor representative on the Massachusetts Correctional Association and served as a notary public for union members, the elderly and people in need. Henry was recorded as sole recipient of the Guttenberg Award in the history of the Typographical Union, for his achievements in Labor-Management Relations. This award represented his moral character, kindness and compassion for others. He lived by the philosophy to "always do the right thing, to the best of your ability." Henry was an empathetic man who related to all people, regardless of status in life. He was predeceased by wife Connie D'Ambrosio and brother Reynold Vitale. Henry was married for 40 years to his beloved wife. He laughed, cried and loved her with all of his heart. He was a loyal and devoted husband for all of those years, truly a beautiful person. Henry is survived by his loving sons Henry F. Vitale and wife JoAnne Shire-Vitale and John Vitale and wife Muna Vitale, and four loving granddaughters Bianca, Gabriella, Concetta and Sabah. His sister Annette Thompson and her husband Bernie of Coral Gables, FL, sister Elaine Bougiouris and husband Koulis of Revere, MA, brother Russell Vitale and Beverly Rogers of Revere, MA, and many nieces and nephews. There was a private Service at Ruggiero Family Memorial Home on Wednesday morning, June 23, 2021 followed by a Christian Burial Mass at St. Anthony's Church in Revere at 11:00 am. Henry and John, and family,
I was saddened to learn of the loss of your father, we worked together when I was elected Secy.-Treas., in 1989. We were not always in agreement on union matters, but he helped negotiate many good union contracts that benefited our local.
