INDAR KAMAL Obituary

KAMAL, Indar Raj Of Woburn, formerly of Weston, the respected and loved patriarch of the Kamal family, passed away at 1:18 PM, June 17, 2021. He is survived by the love of his life, Usha Kamal (Bhalla), eldest son Rick and wife Teena of Dover, younger son Manoj and wife Rachel of Waltham, and three grandchildren, Ashley, Justin, and Arianna, who doted on their Gpa.

Our Dad was a legend and died a universally loved and deeply respected man. He was a founding pillar of the Indian community in New England and continued to strengthen it throughout his life. He was a man of unshakable conviction and humble service to the thousands he encountered. He was a man of unparalleled intellect, integrity, and honor. He was a trusted confidante, advisor, guide, counselor, and healer to all he met. So many of us hold him with great reverence and gratitude in our hearts and minds.

Indar was born in Gujrat, Punjab in pre-partition India on September 8, 1932. He was an exceptional student with great academic promise. At fifteen, he left home with a burning desire to reach America, a nearly impossible dream in the 1950's. On his way, he became the youngest cadet in the Indian Army. Eventually our adventurous dad figured out a way to leave India in 1960 to pursue his PhD in Physics at Boston University. He found his calling as a Professor of Statistics, Physics, Astronomy, and Photography at Curry College, Milton for over 50 years. He loved teaching and touched the lives of many students. Beyond the classroom, he was a North Star for all that had the pleasure of being in his presence. He walked the walk and showed us all how to live an authentic life. He inspired us to create the highest grandest vision possible for our lives.

Our Dad was an aesthetic connoisseur and surrounded himself with the most beautiful gifts from God including his pride and joy, his beautiful wife, Usha. He was blissfully married for 56 years and his epic love story is as indelible as Romeo-Juliet, Laila-Majnu, and Heer-Ranjha. His life was further sweetened with his fervent love of desserts. He lived for butter pecan ice cream topped with pineapple jelly, ras malai, gajrela, rum cake, pecan pie, klondike bars, ad infinitum. No wonder his legacy is the sweetness in thousands of hearts. Dad, we are so grateful that you made heaven a place on earth for us!

Visiting Hours will be held Saturday, June 19th at the Douglass Funeral Home, 51 Worthen Road, LEXINGTON, from 2 PM to 5 PM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Funeral will be private. Donations in his memory may be made to Shivalaya Temple of Greater Boston. Lexington 781-862-1800

My sincere condolences on the passing of your beloved husband and father. I met Indar when I started teaching as an adjunct at Curry College. I found him to be exactly as you described-- treating all, even a lowly Adjunct, with respect and warmth.
