Irwin Von Iderstein Obituary

Irwin F. "Dutch" Von Iderstein, 79, formerly of Cotuit, died on Sept. 12 at his home in The Villages, FL, following a long illness. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Joanne (Cummings) Von Iderstein. Mr. Von Iderstein was born in Rockland and was raised and educated in Hingham. He was a World War II Veteran and served on the USS Baltimore, receiving 10 bronze medals. Mr. Van Iderstein retired from Helix Technology and was a member of the 25 Years Club. He was an accomplished artist as well as an avid golfer. He was a former member of the Cummaquid Golf Club on Cape Cod. He was a member of the Simon W. Robinson Lodge, A.F. & A.M. in Lexington and received his 50 year pin in 1993. He was one of the three founders of the Prostate Cancer Support Group on Cape Cod which grew to include other areas in Mass. Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Douglas Von Iderstein of Duxbury, a daughter, Verna Mulready of Hanover; 3 grandchildren; 3 brothers, Irl Von Iderstein of Scituate, Nathan Lee of Palm Desert, CA and Ernst of Hanover. He was the brother of the late Bernice Ulrich of Eastham. He was (or will be) buried in the Florida National Cemetery with military Honors. Memorial donations may be made to the Villagers for Hopsice, 1230 Rio Grande Ave., The Villages, FL 32159.
