James Bohan Obituary

80, Asheville, NC, died following a long battle with cancer on April 8 , 2008. Born July 24, 1927 in Medford, MA, where he attended St. Clements School until, at age 14, he left to join the Order of Carmelites in Niagara Falls, ONT. He spent 20 years as a Carmelite where he held several important posts, including Athletic Director & track coach at Mt. Carmel High in Chicago, Principal at Joliet Catholic High and Chaplain at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Washington, D.C.Thereafter, he left the Carmelites to become a counselor, having earned a Masters Degree in Social Work at Rutgers University. He practiced as a counselor in partnership with his wife Ann until his final illness. He is survived by his beloved wife, Ann Carter Swayne, her children Martha, Rebecca, Stephen, Donald & Judith, his brother William B. Bohan of San Diego, CA & his sister Patricia A. Flanagan of Manchester, CT. He is predeceased by his brother J. Edward McManus of Lexington, MA & his sister Mary P. McManus of Manchester, CT. A memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 15 at St. Clements Church, 71 Warner St., Medford to be followed by a luncheon at a restaurant in Somerville. Contributions may be made to The Carmelite Monastery , 61 Mt. Pleasant Avenue, Roxbury, MA 02119.
