BORDEN, James Pinckney Of Scituate, MA, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and respected international banker, passed away on August 22, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Philadelphia in 1941, he was the son of Richard Borden and Janet Pinckney Borden; brother of Shirley E. Burt and Richard Denton Borden; and beloved brother-in-law to Priscilla G. Sands, William F. Sands, IV, James H. Sands, Jr., Elizabeth K. Sands, Adele G. Sands, Geoffrey K. Sands and their spouses. Jim was also loved by a large group of cherished nieces and nephews. Jim graduated from The Hill School and Trinity College. He began his career in finance at Chase Manhattan Bank. Over his 30-plus years at Chase, including six years in the London office, he led global trading and sales teams and rose to become Senior Vice President and Global Head of Foreign Exchange. A respected leader in the global financial community, Jim served on the Federal Reserve Bank of New York's Foreign Exchange Committee and was twice elected Chairman. After many years in New York, he joined Bank of Boston in 1996. He became an Executive Vice President, Managing Director, and Group Executive of Asia and Global Markets. He retired in 2001. Jim excelled in his career, but his family always came first. At a time when the idea of leaving the office for family commitments was unimaginable for most, he never missed a school play, Little League game, or other family milestone. He was a loving husband to Marguerite Borden for 62 years; the best father in the world to his children, Lisa and William; father-in-law to Joseph Berkeley; and beloved grandfather to Isabella, Sophie, and John. Jim loved to read, sketch, sing, and play the guitar. He enjoyed the ballet, symphony, and sports of all kinds. He drew another kind of joy from a life by the sea, spending long hours in all kinds of weather kayaking along the Gulf River, taking his hunter-green Boston Whaler Montauk out toward Minot Light, and watching the tide rise and fall from the windows of his home. Those who knew him well and even those who knew him from occasional encounters will remember his warmth, charm, and dry wit. Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of his Life at 3 p.m., on September 26, at the Cohasset Yacht Club, with a reception to follow. Instead of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his name to The Bionic Project, the nonprofit close to his heart,
