Dear Conway Family,
I was at a social event last Friday when Dr. Will Selleck told me the sad news of Jim's passing.
Jim welcomed me to the practice of oncology in Manchester in 1978. At that time cancer medicine was generally considered a hopeless exercise, but Jim was warm and supportive. Through the years we shared in the effort to improve medical care in Manchester. His energy and optimism lifted me up when things seemed to be going in the wrong direction for medical care in our community. I will miss his strength and companionship. I can only imagine how greatly you and your family feel his loss.
I am with deepest sympathy, Sincerely yours, Denis Hammond

Dear Ruth and family, I am so addened by the news of Jim's passing and I share your grief. Jim had a special place in my heart as he welcomed me, new young doctor into the Elliot community. He was gracious, helpful and always a charming gentleman with a smile, a twinkle in his eye and a wry sense of humor. He led by example not only in his practie of medicine and ethical leadership but also as a leader to bring the staff together. I will always remember the Christmas parties he organized for the medical staff, much smaller at the time, where we got to know each other and develop the commeraderie and colligiality of the medical community. He is the example we should all strive for.
You have my heartfelt sympathy and prayers. With love, Poly Rounds

I met Dr. Conway a number of years ago when he treated me for kidney stones. Very professional and assuring that everything will work out. Later as I worked for the valet service at Rivers Edge I had the opportunity to provide service for him when he came for numerous appointments. Always enjoyed the conversations we had. As time passed and I learned that he was at Elliot I made it a point to go up and see him. He remembered me from Rivers Edge and we engaged in a light conversation. My only regret is that I did not take more time to visit him. To his loving wife Ruth I would like to pass on my condolence - He was a great man- Bill Ruwell - Transporter Elliot Hospitsl

Dear Ruth and Family,
During the Christmas season, I fondly recall my dearest memory of Dr. Conway. In the 1980´s, Dr. Daly would host his "special" nurses in his home. Dr. Conway would arrive, take his seat at the piano and play Christmas carols, while we gathered around him and sang.
I always held Dr. Conway in very high regard and was privileged to work with him. My deepest sympathies to all of you.

Dr Conway. A gem of a human being. Working with him was a privilege when I was an RN in the Elliot ICU. Always a smile as he appeared to rescue our patients from urology woes. He would appear with his famous box of various catheters tucked under his arm to solve those issues. Rest peacefully Dr Conway. We all loved you!

Dr. Conway was an icon in our community. His passing leaves a tremendous void on so many levels. Ruthe, you've lost your soulmate, and your children and grandchildren a loving and devoted father and grandfather. But his greater community also feels this palpable loss. As a doctor, he practiced with intelligence and compassion. As Elliot Hospital Board chair, he helped steer the system through some difficult times, and did so successfully. But most of all, he guided me in my emerging role as board member and, later, as its chair. His mentorship transformed into friendship, for which I am ever grateful. Paul and I extend our most heartfelt sympathy to you all.

Ruth, I’m so sad to see this. You and Jim had a wonderful life and a beautiful family. He was a physician that consistently maintained the highest standards of quality and compassion for patients. I held great respect for Jim and routinely sought his counsel in dealing with the complexities of managing Optima and Elliot. The world has lost a good man and your family is now dealing with the grief of losing its father, husband and grandpa. Genie and I will keep you in our thoughts and prayers. With deepest regrets Doug Dean
