JAMES DUNNE Obituary

DUNNE, James Henry Jim Dunne James Henry Dunne was born January 27, 1931. He resided in Westborough, MA, Eastham, MA, and Vero Beach, FL. He passed away after a life well lived on December 29, 2020. James was loved and will be greatly missed by Beverly, his loving wife of 62 years, son James A. Dunne (Michele), son Paul Dunne, daughter Andrea Dunne Adrian (Jay), daughter Alissa Dunne (Joe), seven cherished grandchildren: Nikki, Ashley, Andrew, Mark, Trey, Samantha and Alexandra, five great-grandchildren, sisters Dorothy Ross, Mary Naples and Eileen Flahive, thirty five nieces and nephews, and countless cousins. James is preceded by his parents, Annie A. Dunne and Patrick Dunne. His Catholic faith guided him throughout his life. Jim was active since childhood at St. Luke's in Westborough, starting out as an altar boy and progressing into Eucharistic Minister. Jim, so proud to be a native son of Westborough, was born, raised and started his family there. He was a graduate of Westborough High School, class of 1948. His mother Annie, town clerk for 30 years, passed down the tradition of working for Westborough to her son Jim who worked for the United States Postal Service for 35 years, serving as postmaster for over 20 years. There was a time he knew every family in town; he couldn't enter a coffee shop without someone recognizing him, 'Dunzo!' or 'Jimmy Dunne!' they would call out. A habitual early riser, Jim always started his day with The Boston Globe, a good cup of coffee and conversation at whatever local coffee shop was nearby - visiting with old friends and striking up conversation with anyone willing to chat. His smile was contagious and he had a unique ability to befriend strangers. An avid Boston sports fan, Jim particularly enjoyed and relished the Bruins of the '70s, the Celtics of the '80s and never passed up a chance to watch the Red Sox live at Fenway. His greatest sports love belonged to football. Jim had a brief stint playing semi-pro football for the Marlboro Shamrocks. Most of all, he loved his Patriots – beginning with shoveling out Harvard Stadium to watch the Boston Patriots play to basking in all the glory of the Belichick/Brady dynasty, practically never missing a game. Jim and Bev spent forty summers on the Cape, with their family and friends, at their home in Eastham and they retired to the beautiful seaside town of Vero Beach spending over thirty years in the sunshine. Jim especially loved a good conversation, reading, finishing crossword puzzles (his favorite challenge the Sunday NY Times) singing Sinatra tunes and he had a dapper sense of style. More than anything, Jim loved his family and friends. For the safety for those we love and care about during this difficult time, a memorial service will be held at a later date in 2021.

One the best people I ever met in my life. Did his job ,never complaining . I could always talk to him about problems I might have had getting school mailings out. He always solve any problems I had. I missed seeing Jim when he retired

My sympathies to Jimmy’s family and friends. I enjoyed lots of chats as his friend and hygienist at Dr Cutone’s office. Most importantly though was the fact that he was the reason my parents chose Westborough to buy their house and raise us. Jimmy struck up a conversation with my mother when they were both in Memorial Hospital in 1952. She had mentioned that she and her husband were looking to buy a house somewhere between Worcester and Natick to be close to both sets of my grandparents. Of course Jimmy recommended Westborough highly and gave her Dorothy Hickox’s name and number as the realtor to call. The rest is history! I was raised in Westborough as well as my children and now my grandchildren. Thank you Jimmy! RIP ❤

My wife, Barbara, and I were greatly saddened to read of Jim's passing. We will always remember and hold dearly our friendship with Jim and Beverly. Jim was a warm and jovial man who loved his wife and family and valued and was loyal to his friends. He reflected and continued his mother's service to community. We want to offer our most sincere condolences to Beverly and the Dunne family.
