JAMES MCDEVITT Obituary

McDEVITT, James Age 75, of Plymouth, formerly of Wrentham and Needham, passed away on Saturday, May 21, at his home in Plymouth. He was the devoted husband to his wife, Betty. Father of Jennifer Moran of Medway, and Brian McDevitt of Auburn, NH. Jim was the brother of Michael McDevitt of San Clemente, CA, Terry Tamasco of Plymouth, Cheryl McDevitt of Danvers, and the late Maureen Speed. Born in Boston on December 31, 1946, son of the late James and Rita (Duggan) McDevitt, Jim grew up in Needham and graduated from Needham High School. In July of 1967, Jim enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served combat duty in the Republic of Vietnam, where he was severely wounded and earned four Purple Hearts before medically retiring. Jim's experiences as a Marine Rifleman, and his success in overcoming disabling injuries, left him with a determination to live his life to the fullest. His early work career included the Foxboro Company, Codex, and later the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles - Board of Appeals. Jim was a caring soul and brought joy and happiness to all he met. He was very social, and loved to entertain, and travel. Most of all he loved his family, his friends, his Boston sports teams, and his politics. A Service will take place at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne on May 31, at 10:45am, followed by a Celebration of Life luncheon. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jim's memory may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Condolences to you all. I remember one Halloween where Mr. McDevitt came to the door with a huge metal bowl of chocolate pudding and a spoon. He told us to open our bags! I´ll never forget that. So sorry to lose such a fun soul.
