SHYNE, James A. "Jim" Sr. Age 74, of Brewster, formerly of Sharon, passed away unexpectedly on August 7, 2020. Born in Sharon, a son of the late Eugene and Mary (Griffin) Shyne, he was raised in Sharon and was a graduate of Sharon High School where he was a gifted and talented basketball player. Jim continued his education at Stonehill College, earning a Bachelor's degree while also playing Division 2 basketball for the Skyhawks. Jim was employed as an educator and guidance counselor for over 30 years and was employed at the Nauset Regional School District, where he was a member of both the Massachusetts Teachers Association and the National Teachers Association. James is survived by two sons, Daniel P. Shyne and his wife Melissa of Easton and Andrew M. Shyne of Bourne; two siblings, his twin sister Janet Zade of Hingham and Virginia Jama of Jamaica Queens, NY; four grandchildren, Kathryn Shyne, Lila Shyne and Sarah Shyne, all of Easton and Theodore Shyne of Vermont; and several nieces and nephews. James was predeceased by his son, James A. Shyne, Jr. as well as his siblings Eugene F. Shyne, Jr., Eleanor Mulvehill, John D. Shyne and Elizabeth A. D'Ancona. I met Jim in1965 as a freshman at Stonehill. We were teammates for three years at Stonehill. I will always remember as a freshman how Jim went out of his way to make me feel comfortable and adjust to college life. We were competitors at practice and and strong teammates at games.

Jim had such love for his 3 sons and cared for them deeply. The death of his son Jim was a shock and loss for him. He was a sensitive, funny, strong, intelligent and kind human being. He overcame much physical pain through self care and managed to heal his body of various health projects. He appreciated that his body was so strong his whole life and that he had the opportunity to enjoy playing basketball so much. He loved splitting firewood for his wood stove. He loved reading good books. He loved planting the garden with all sorts of flowers each summer. He loved swimming. He did his best. May he rest in peace.

We are greatly saddened to learn of Jim's passing. He was an avid swimmer at Hawksnest Pond in Harwich. We all enjoyed his soft spoken nature, his endless stories & his commitment to fitness. He was a frequent visitor to the pond & a great part of the group of "regulars"taking pride in our little hidden gem, commenting on new visitors, water temp & limited parking spots. I was so sorry to read of Jim's passing. Please accept my condolences for the families loss. I lived on Goodrich Place in Sharon and was a neighbor of Virginia, Janet and Jim. I was a couple of years ahead of Jim in high school but I remember what a great basketball player he was. What great times we had cheering for the Sharon Eagles while they played in the Hockomock championship in Boston Garden. Please know how sorry I am for your families loss.

I came to work at Nauset to work in guidance for Jim's last two year. My co-worker, Steve and I were both new to the district and we both were expecting our first children. Shyne-Dog (as we called him) took us both under his wing. He was an absolute great great guy!!!! When he retired, I would see him at the fields in Brewster walking with his hiking sticks. My boy's would ask, who is that tall guy you talk to. I told them that was the Shyne-dog. To this day they still refer to Jim as the Shyne-Dog. I will miss you my friend, you are a great person and I will always remember and appreciate the time we had together.

We are deeply saddened and shocked by the sudden and unexpected loss of our dear friend. Jim will always be remembered in our hearts as a loving human being who combined in himself a sense of great moral seriousness and the joy of being very much a trusted friend. Our monthly telephone conversations brought back a flood of memories about our working days at Nauset and escapades at Sharon and Canton High Schools. His quick wit, sincerity and detailed descriptions of past events will stay with us forever. Our lives are more colorful today because he was an integral part of us. We will miss you, Jim. Jim and I attended Stonehill at the same time. His career in high school guidance an d mine in college admissions allowed us to be connected his entire professional life. He cared about his students and he knew how to counsel those in need of a soft approach and those in need of a heavy hand.

"Synedawg" and I were best mates during the decade of the 80's and I wouldn't doubt that our escapades served as the subjects for a few of his famed stories.At any given time, you probably could have found us together playing basketball where he would always beat my low skill brains in.After he moved to the Cape,we kept in touch via e-mail and I always had to check my syntax so as not to be considered illiterate by the former English major.He was very well read and I think may have considered this line penned by Willa Cather to have summed up our relationship,"Whatever we had missed, we possessed together the precious incommunicable past".Rest In Peace,Jimbo knowing that you will be missed.My deepest condolences to his family.
