JANE POWERS Obituary

POWERS, Jane (Dore) Of Osterville, MA, passed away peacefully at home on May 30, 2021 surrounded by her adoring family.

Born on August 21, 1931 to Clement and Florence (Weiler) Dore, Jane grew up in Newton, MA with her brothers Clement and John, both of whom predeceased her. She graduated from Newton Country Day School of the Sacred Heart in Newton in 1949 and Regis College in Weston, MA in 1953. After college, Jane lived an adventure-packed life. She served as an air hostess for Trans World Airlines, worked several summers at the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes in France and even skied with Warren Miller in the Swiss Alps. She was an avid golfer, skier and bridge player.

Jane met the love of her life, Thomas Joseph Powers, on a blind date while visiting Cape Cod in the summer of 1963. They were married six months from the day they met. Tom predeceased Jane after a long bout with cancer in 1978. Jane's family was her greatest accomplishment. She is survived by her three loving children and spouses: Jane Powers and Peggy Hayes of Medford, MA, Peter and Kathleen Powers of Milton, MA and Christy (Powers) and John Duggan of Darien, CT. She is also survived by the lights of her life, her five adoring grandchildren, Jack, Charlie, Catie and Lucy Duggan, and Mary Powers. Finally, she left a legacy of love, faith and friendship with her extended family, her special friends from the God Squad, fellow parishioners at Our Lady of the Assumption and many other bridge clubs and social organizations. A shining example to all of what it means to walk in God's grace, Jane devoted herself to many Catholic organizations. She was a member of the Guild at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, delivered newborn infants to their new foster or pre-adoptive homes for Catholic Charities and was a strong supporter of the St. Joseph's Homeless Shelter in Hyannis, MA.

Known lovingly as "Gaga" to her grandchildren, she never missed attending a Baptism, First Communion, Confirmation or Graduation. Gaga loved taking her grandchildren to the Centerville Candy Store or for ice cream. She loved supporting her children and grandchildren in a myriad of sporting venues, theater and especially through fun days on the boat. She would never turn down a ride on the boat. Jane is now reunited with her mother Florence, our "Gigi," and her beloved Tom, and we know she is in the Lord's good hands.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the St. Joseph's (formerly known as NOAH) Homeless Shelter in Hyannis, MA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Jane at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 76 Wianno Ave., Osterville on Friday, June 4 at 11:00am. Burial will be private in Mount Calvary Cemetery in Roslindale, MA.

What a lovely photo that captures Mrs Powers' ebullient spirit and appreciation for life. I met dear Jane's Mom (aka Big Jane) one summer when home from college, and was instantly struck by her kindness and outgoing nature, and so welcoming too. Her generous spirit, intelligence and warmth are all present in Jane, Christy and Peter, and no doubt are being passed on to the next generation. What wonderful memories you must retain. My family and I send our deepest sympathies to Jane and the whole Powers family. With much love.
