JAY H. MELTZER

MELTZER, Jay H. Died on Wednesday, November 16, 2022, surrounded by his family. He was the beloved son of Ethel (Krofschek) Meltzer and Solomon Meltzer. Born in Brooklyn, NY in 1944, he graduated from Dartmouth College in 1964 and from Harvard Law School in 1967. He is survived by his wife Joan Meltzer; stepdaughter Jessica Sommerville and her husband Joseph Stulpin; daughter Wendy Hurwitz and her husband Barry; daughter Elizabeth Bloom and her husband Seth; son Jonathan Meltzer and his wife Alissa; and grandchildren Rachel Hurwitz, Joshua Hurwitz, Adam Hurwitz, Talia Bloom, Alex Bloom, Daniel Bloom, Jeremy Meltzer, and Julia Meltzer. He is also survived by his former wife Bonnie Rosenberg. Jay was a highly accomplished attorney, starting his career with the law firm of Sherman & Sterling and then as general counsel of Damon Corporation. He moved on to establish the in-house legal department at The TJX Companies, Inc., where he was the general counsel for over two decades. He was a co-founder and former Chairperson of the New England Corporate Counsel Association, a former director of the Association of Corporate Counsel, and a former director of the Retailers Association of Massachusetts. Most importantly, Jay lived his life to the fullest. He was a runner and ran in two Boston Marathons. He was a wine enthusiast who enjoyed studying the art of winemaking. He was a film buff, frequently attending several films a week and countless film festivals. He also enjoyed traveling all over the world and learning about different people, places, and their histories. He will be fondly remembered for his grace, intelligence, dry sense of humor, and quiet courage. He will be loved and missed forever. The family wishes to acknowledge their gratitude to the compassionate staff at Miriam Boyd Parlin Hospice Residence, where Jay spent his final days. Services will be held at Congregation Or Atid, 97 Concord Road, Wayland, on Monday, November 21, at 1:00 PM. Burial to follow at Beit Olam East Cemetery, Wayland. There will be a reception after the burial at a place to be announced at the service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation in Jay's name to either the Lewy Body Dementia Association or the Parkinson's Foundation so that one day no other family will have to watch a loved one experience these awful diseases.
