Although it is a late condolence, I would like to extend mine to the Crocker family. I remember Jeanne as a benefactor of a program way back in the late 60's and early 70's. While LUK and the III Pyramids began their respective activist organizations. ( Still in operation today). Jeanne and "Big" were instrumental in an educational endeavor in the College Area of Fitchburg,Ma. Founded by Rev. Ed Vaeni and the Crockers (as far as I know) the idea was to offer a "free school" to youth who were thinking of dropping out as young as 14. The school eventually morphed into a "street academy" modeled after Harlem Prep. They purchased the old Jewish Community Center on Day St. to use for a school/community center. The center was named The Woodstock Street Academy. Jeanne was a very supportive, down to earth role model for our young staff. She was very encouraging to us and offered her support with hand written notes. She gave me hope as I went on to be founder of The College Area Summer Program, Woodstock Street Hockey League/Fitchburg Street Hockey League. These were the direct result of encouragement from Jeanne. Recently I found one of her hand written notes in an old file, which made me think of her kindness and support to the children of the Fitchburg State College Area.

Hi here is a little note to my dear grandmother, on my father's side.
You were an inspiration to live the life we had, the best way we could. You brought us into your arms when we needed it, and gave us a good pat on the back when we were down. I will always remember and love you. God bless you so much, and thanks again.

I distinctly remember first meeting Jeanne on the first day of school ,seventh grade year in 1935 or there a outs , when Shirley Amory said
"The most wonderful girl has just joined our Class.Come meet her. " and of course the wonderful girl was Jeannie LaCroix Who became a dear friend ascwellnas leader of our Class of 1941 at Beaver. Her warmth and kindness are qzualities that come to mind as well as her inclusiveness. A particular bond was our shared love of music and participation in Glee Club and orchestra she on clarinet. I especially remember her pleasure. In being babe to play the main theme from "Peter and the Wolf" . We shared this activity as classmates and housemates at Smith College as well. Treasured picture is of Jeannie, me, and others singing on the porch of our dormitory.
Her friendship has remained a bright light through out my life. I send sympathy and love to her family, particularly to Suzanne,Edith, and Nelson. Nancy Moore clariniatvSmithbCollegecwherevwevwere
