My deepest condolences to my beautiful Aunt Joani's immediate family, and siblings. She truly was one of the most gentle and kindest of souls I ever had the pleasure of knowing. She will be forever missed and always deeply loved.

Hello Ed. This is Charlene Tweedy Smith. I just read, via the Preachers Aid Society notice, of your wife Joan's passing. I am very sorry for your loss of someone whom you and your family loved for so many years. Although I am not totally sure I met Joan, you spoke of her to me and how she held your open houses at holiday time and was very involved in her life at Harvard and her writing. Life moves on for each of us. Working for you and the Church for nearly four years at Harvard Epworth UMC, until my son Bryan was born to Alan Smith and I, in 1989, will always be a memory of my years in Cambridge. Bryan went to college at the Culinary Institute of America in New York until 2012. He is working in the Food Industry and has until recently, been working at the TOP OF THE HUB in Boston as Purchaser and Receiver of all the food, and equipment. He now is in Weston, MA, working as a cook and will be a manager in training for the full food facility for Liberty Mutual there in Weston. He has already turned the facilities quality of food around already. I am healthy and doing well. We attend the UCC Church here in Stoughton, MA, where I am involved with the Missions & Ministry, and Caring Committees, as well as coordinating all of the various coffee hours and dinners etc.... anything dealing with food. Bryan has a lovely girlfriend, Kelsey. This may well become a long lasting relationship. Time will tell. Ed, I do hope you are well and I know that the wonderful life memories of Joan will be with you and your family always. With blessings, and peace to you, Charlene Smith.

I didn't have the pleasure of meeting Joan though knew her through my dear friends: her son Jonathan, daughter in law Donna, and granddaughter Irene. Their generosity, brilliant minds and great hearts will carry on her goodness. May her memory be a blessing to all who loved her. May the family find comfort at this tender time.
