Rene Raymon, aged 84, passed away peacefully at his home in Winter Springs, Florida, on March 21, 2026.

Born on June 6, 1941, in Vinton, Iowa, Rene was raised on his family’s farm near the small town of Elberon. He received his early education in a one-room schoolhouse before graduating from Keystone High School in 1959. Following his graduation, Rene served honorably in the U.S. Air Force from 1959 to 1963, with postings in the Philippines and Wyoming. After his discharge, he pursued higher education at the University of Iowa, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering in 1971.

Rene’s distinguished career included work with the Public Works Department at Norfolk Naval Shipyard and various roles within the Department of Defense. He contributed as a project engineer on the Division Artillery Gun Program at Rock Island Arsenal, and later worked at Picatinny Arsenal in New Jersey and STRICOM in Orlando, Florida. His expertise in test and evaluation engineering earned him recognition, including serving as Chairman of the International Test and Evaluation Association Symposium in 1997.

A devoted family man, Rene is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 30 years, Alice Bamberger of Winter Springs. Together, they shared a rich life of travel and adventure, exploring almost every state in the continental United States by motor home, and enjoying voyages abroad to Scotland, England, France, the Caribbean, through the Panama Canal, and to Alaska. He is also survived by his former wife, Catherine Marie Rubenstein, and their children: Rene Howard Raymon (Christy) of Oviedo, Florida; Catherine Marie Dooley (Shannon) of Dothan, Alabama; and David Curtis Raymon (Tonya) of Winter Park, Florida. Rene was a proud grandfather to six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Rene was preceded in death by his parents, Howard Peter Raymon and Arlene Schelhase Raymon, as well as his sister, Rosemary Raymon Diehl.

Known for his dry sense of humor and kindness, Rene was deeply involved in his family’s lives, coaching youth sports and supporting his children’s activities. In retirement, he devoted much time to travel and enthusiastically supported his son’s racing pursuits. Rene also enjoyed participating in a local dart team and was an ardent fan of the UCF Knights and Iowa Hawkeyes.

In honoring Rene’s memory, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice. He will be fondly remembered by family and friends for his warmth, dedication, and adventurous spirit.
