I only heard of Joel's death recently from a former colleague of mine at MDPH. He was such a kind and giving man when I worked for him back in the early 1990s. He is missed.

Dear Henia
We will always remember Joel's warmth and humor, and the generosity and love he showed to Mara, Diego and me, and especially to my mother, who adored him, as you know. Our hearts go out to you.

Dear Henia,
We are away and just found out about Joel's death. We are so sorry. We saw him right before we left and we were feeling hopeful because he was so upbeat about the success of his chemo. We send you our deepest sympathy and hope to see you when we return.

Thinking of him and his family at this sad time. I only met him once or twice, but heard such good things about him from my son Arthur, and am grateful for the friendship, wise counsel and mentoring example he graciously offered to others

Dear Henia --
We are as shocked as we are saddened. Despite Joel's illness, he seemed as robust as ever. We will deeply miss his perpetual smile and humble demeanor. He was a wonderful neighbor -- and made us feel so very welcome in our new home. And with his judgment and experience, he taught us so much about the politics of the city. We will miss him sorely. Our hearts go out to you -- and the rest of the family.
Yours,
Tottie and Ross

Dear Henia,
Sending you all our comfort and prayers for the loss of your beloved Joel. I always enjoyed talking with Joel about our painful shoulders. He was an interesting man with the most beautiful blue eyes. Some people come in & out of our lives and briefly touch upon us; but Joel was always a lingering spirit & someone I always sought out. I will miss him sorely & am grateful for our friendship.
