JOHN CENTURINO Obituary

CENTURINO, John "Buddy" Age 76, of Plymouth, passed away on Feb. 18th, 2019, at the Brigham and Women's Hospital, Boston. He was the devoted husband of 51 years to Rosanne (Siracusa) Centurino, his high school sweetheart. Born on June 22, 1942, Buddy was a son of the late Gary and Alice (McCarthy) Centurino. He was a graduate of Everett High School, Class of 1960 and Northeastern University where he received his BA in Electrical Engineering.

Buddy started his career at Hazeltine Corp., transitioned to own several businesses, including Fanfare Fruit, Inc, a wholesale produce business, and Artistic Impressions, a silk screening company. He finished his last 15 years as the Director of Purchasing and Building Facilities for the Boston Globe.

Throughout the years, Buddy pursued many passions. He loved his time coaching youth football in Duxbury, where he served as President of the program for many years. He also played softball with the Cape Cod Senior Softball League. But by far, Buddy's favorite sport was golfing. He was able to spend his retirement playing golf at the Pinehills in Plymouth at least 3 times a week. He spent his winters playing in Kiawah Island, SC. He was creative and artistic. He was always there with a helping hand when anyone was in need. All who knew him will remember him as a great, honest, sincere person.

Besides leaving his wife, Rosanne, he was the loving father of Jonathan J. Centurino and his wife Holly of Pelham Manor, NY, and Todd C. Centurino and his wife Vanessa of Houston, TX. He was beloved brother of Claire A. Centurino and was the cherished grandfather of Blair and Darcy Centurino.

A Life Celebration Memorial will take place on March 2, 2019, at 10 a.m., at the Waverly Oaks Country Club, 444 Long Pond Rd., Plymouth, MA 02360. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory at MDS-Foundation.org or if you are so inclined please consider donating blood at Dana Farber Cancer Institute or your local hospital. Very sorry to learn today of Coach Centurino’s passing. He was our pop warner football coach and we had a blast. He was very influential on us kids at the time giving us confidence and always made it fun. He could call plays and run an offense with the best of them. My condolences to Todd and family. Chad Godfrey.

I was saddened to hear of Buddy's illness and his recent passing. During our freshman year at Northeastern (1961-62), Buddy was in our six person carpool from Everett to NU. Those morning and afternoon commutes to and from Everett remain as fond memories for me.
His cousin, Charlie Boy, was also in that same carpool and Charlie always kept me up to date with Buddy's accomplishments for the past 50+ years.

So sad to hear of Buddy's passing. While we were coaching together I was always amazed at his consistent enthusiasm and positive attitude. Later as he faced multiple health issues, that same positive attitude and enthusiasm was again on display for everyone that knew him.

Buddy will always be remembered as a good man, friend, fighter and role model for how to handle life's toughest tests.
