JOHN DUFF Obituary

DUFF, John Fitzgerald MD A Pioneer In The Field Of Orthopedic Sports Medicine John Fitzgerald Duff, MD, of Peabody and Byfield, Massachusetts died peacefully in his home at Brooksby Village on April1, 2021. Dr. Duff was the second child to Dr. Paul Fitzgerald Duff and Francis (nee Harrington) Duff. Dr. John Duff was a devoted father and husband, a visionary pioneer in orthopedic sports medicine and a distinguished member of the North Shore Community. Dr Duff leaves behind an extensive loving family. His children; Kathleen Duff of Cambridge, John and Brianne Duff of Georgetown, Christopher Duff and Tracy Mauck of Cabot, VT, Elizabeth Duff of Newburyport, Dr Julia Duff of Oakland, CA, Dr. Gregory and Kim Duff of Seabeck, WA, and Mark Duff of Providence, RI. He also leaves behind his grandchildren and their partners; Kara Ganley, Ian Ganley, Jonathan and Lauren Duff, Ashleigh (Duff) and Jack Lindsay, Taylor Barrett Duff and his partner Chloe Emory, Forrest Mauck-Duff and his partner Jacey Murphy, Ryland and Mary Mauck-Duff, Delia Cox and her partner Jeremy Young, Dylan Cox and his partner Meghan Fahey, Brandon Duff, Finnegan Duff, Joss Duff and China Duff. Also left behind are his great-grandchildren Jayden Mauck-Duff, Awnika Mauck-Duff, Benjamin Lindsay and Asa Lindsay. Dr. Duff was predeceased by his wife Esty in 2011, and his daughter Cynthia (Duff) Gofman in 2001 and is survived by his son-in-law Misha Gofman. He is survived by his brother Brendan Duff and his sister Elizabeth (Duff) Murphy. He was predeceased by his siblings Paul Duff, Brian Duff, Ellen (Duff) Pickering, Roderick Duff, Kevin Duff, Gerald Duff, and Sheila (Duff) White and is survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Visiting Hours: Visiting Hours will be held on Thursday from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., PEABODY. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday at 10:30 AM at St. Mary's Annunciation Church, Conant St., Danvers. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, West Roxbury. I lived in Byfield and was a friend of Dr Duff, 4 of us would run in the morning, years ago , I recall many great conversations in my driveway, he was a loving man.

Dr. Duff was such a caring and amazing doctor and person. His warmth and intelligence made such a difference to so many people including me when he treated me for back pain many years ago. He was so devoted to his wife and family as well. He will be missed.
