JOHN FERRANTE Obituary

FERRANTE, John, Jr., M.D. Passed away on December 6, 2012. Dr. Ferrante, son of the late John and Ida (Ballerini) Ferrante, was born in 1930, raised in East Boston and then lived in Dedham, East Sandwich and Sanibel Island, Florida for the last forty plus years. He was the beloved husband of fifty-nine years to Irene (Addesa) Ferrante. Loving father of Dr. John Ferrante III and his wife Lori of Milton and Rajani (Rene) Ferrante of Myrtle Beach, SC, and cherished grandfather of Ariana, Chiara, and John IV, of Milton. A graduate of English High School in 1948, he earned first his B.S. in Pharmaceutical Chemistry from New England College of Pharmacy, and then his M.S. from the University of Wisconsin. While working on his Ph.D., he changed his academic pursuit to medicine, and graduated from Boston University School of Medicine in 1962. He completed his Internship and Residency at Carney Hospital in Dorchester where he stayed for almost forty years to practice his chosen profession. He shared his expertise with Marian Manor, as well as many other skilled nursing and medical facilities in the area. A man of mild demeanor and determined optimism, Dr. Ferrante was recognized among his peers for his outstanding talent in medical diagnosis and patient care. He showed a genuine concern and the utmost respect for everyone he encountered. Serving his community as a member of Carney Medical Group, and a staff member of the Milton Hospital, as well as a solo practitioner, he stood as a beacon of professionalism in the medical field, and as a physician totally devoted to those entrusted to his care. For his outstanding achievements and excellence, he received the Seton Award from the Daughters of Charity, the founders of Carney Hospital. He was also a Knight of Don Orione, a charitable organization supporting the Don Orione Home and Shrine. His life will be celebrated with a Mass of Christian Burial at Saint Agatha Church, 432 Adams Street, Milton on Tuesday, December 11 at 10:30 AM. Relatives and friends invited. Visitation is at the Dolan Funeral Home, 460 Granite Avenue, EAST MILTON SQUARE on Monday, December 10 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. Interment will be private. My mother and I fondly remember John. My late sister worked with John when he was at Bernie's drugstore in Dorchester (1959). He then became our father's doctor. Always, a kind and gentle man. Please accept our sympathy.

"Uncle Johnny" as we call him in the family and all our friends and family picked this up and refer to him as "Uncle Johnny" as well. He will be missed greatly for the kind of man that he was. He was kind and gentle. He was a great diagnostician and when ever any of us had a medical problem we would ask "Uncle Johnny for his advice. He was a perfect example of humble beginnings who obtained great heights.
We love you John, may you rest in peace.
