JOHN FRECHETTE Obituary

FRECHETTE, John David Of Naples, FL, and Mashpee, MA, passed away peacefully on July 29, 2014 after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease. John

was born December 19, 1942 in Waltham, MA to Albert and Catherine Frechette. John leaves his wife, Patricia (Coleman) Frechette and his three children: Josh Frechette (Trixie Sabundayo) of San Rafael, CA, Sean Frechette (Innbo Shim) of Brooklyn, NY, Jul? Frechette (Bruno Marini) of Boston, MA, and grandsons Kyuin and Teaghan Frechette. He is also survived by his brother Terrance Frechette (Carole) of Weston, MA, his aunt Elizabeth Dion of Waltham, MA, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. John was a man of tremendous heart and loyalty. His passions included a feverish love for his family, friends, and the institutions he credited with shaping him along the way - including Waltham High School (MA), Hebron Academy (ME) and his alma mater Boston College - where he was an honorable mention All-American football player. Following his graduation in 1965, John played football for the Boston Patriots & Green Bay Packers. Later, John moved into the field of Labor Relations, settling down in Toledo, OH to work for glass company Owens-Illinois, retiring after 25 years as Vice President & Director of Human Resources in November 2000. He also served on many boards in Toledo, including the Northwest Ohio chapter of the National Football Foundation, the Medical College of Ohio, and the Toledo Cultural Arts Center. He is a member of the Hall of Fame at both Waltham High and Hebron Academy. John spent the last 11 years of his life enjoying time with friends and family, and working on his erratic golf game at Audubon Country Club in Naples. He will be remembered for his larger-than-life personality and his heartfelt commitment to family and friends. In his final act of generosity, he will be participating in the study at the Center for Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy Center at Boston University. Funeral mass will be Saturday, August 23 at 10:30 am at St. Julia's in Weston, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Alzheimer's Support Network, 660 Tamiani Tr. #21 Naples, FL 34102, The Boston College Flynn Fund, 1045 Commonwealth Ave., Chestnut Hill, MA 02467, Hebron Academy, 33 Paris Rd., Hebron, ME 04238.

Dear Pat, Josh, Jule, and Sean,
Our hearts are with you at this sad time. You showed our family --especially Mike--so much love and hospitality.
I still remember Josh calling every morning to see if Mike was taking his lunch and walking to school with him, and Mike spending hours at your house; and all the good times we shared with you. May John rest in the peace and bliss of heaven. With much love, Tom and Anne Marie

I caddied for Mr. Frechette at the Toledo Country Club in the mid 1970s. He was a beast of a golfer, the "John Daly" of his time. He took his golf seriously and had a nasty temper when a shot went astray. He'd routinely hit drives well over 300 yards, and few golfers did that in those days with a persimmon wood driver. He'd play a 500+ yard par 5 with a driver, wedge and then putt for eagle. He was incredible. He could have been a professional golfer if had wanted to. He was also a friendly and courteous guy. The lasting image I have of him is him chomping on a stogie as he hit a shot. A very memorable and high-quality individual.

My condolences to his family.

Dear Pat and family,

Prudy and I read, with great sadness in today's BLADE about the passing of John.

He was a really good man, husband, father and grandfather and friend to so many.

I recall the many fun times we had at Inverness with the Frechettes when the kids were young and we let it all hang out.

I think that John sill owes me some bucks from golf but I will forgive the obligation.

John joined the board of the Toledo Chapter Football foundation when I was president and he was a wonderful addition.

Please accept our heartfelt condolences.
