JOHN GALLAGHER Obituary

GALLAGHER, John J. Age 70, died in Peabody on April 17, 2021. He was predeceased by his wife Carol. John leaves behind his son J.R. Gallagher and daughter-in-law Jenny, plus their two children, Annabelle and Willow of Arlington. He also leaves siblings, Jane Gorman and husband Tom of North Reading, Barbara Peterson and husband Dan of Melrose, along with some nieces and nephews. A few others of importance to him include his loyal friend, Dan Healey of Lynn and his former wife Patricia Gallagher. Growing up in Melrose, John loved wrestling. He worked in the family business (Gallagher Oil Company) and attended New England Fuel Institute and Northern Essex Community College. He was a former member of the National Guard and, for a time, worked in the health care industry at New England Memorial Hospital. Charismatic and fun, he had the gift of gab. He once kissed the Blarney Stone, but it wasn't really necessary. He was quick with a joke or to light up your smoke. Always looking out for the underdog, John was good-hearted and generous. His many memorable sayings and expressions will bring a smile to his friends, and will no doubt live on in infamy. In lieu of flowers, please perform a random act of kindness for someone in need. Visiting Hours: A Memorial Service will be scheduled at another time.

So very sorry to hear of Johnny's passing. He was the first friend I ever had at 5 years old and on our first day of kindergarten! We were inseparable for many years before losing touch after high school. Unfortunately only reconnected at the passing of each of our fathers'. Will always cherish the memories of times spent with John. Thoughts and prayers to all of his family. We have lost a good one!
Please notify me if possible of any memorial plans.

I did not know John Long. But from the moment I met him until the last time we saw there wasn't a second he didn't touch my heart. John Gallagher was a great man very simple, never found him to be complicating about anyting anything that John did not make him less of a man he's one of the best man's I've ever met and he was far too young to die but I believe his spirit will be with us forever not particularly me I don't think he'd waste his time hovering over me LOL but he probably will not leave Dan Healy alone they were the best of buddies. With that being said till we meet again old friend lots of love.
