JOHN GRANAHAN Obituary

GRANAHAN, John H.J. Age 87, of Concord, Massachusetts, died peacefully surrounded by family and loved ones, on December 18, 2023, due to complications from a prior illness. Jack was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on January 11, 1936, the son of the late Joseph A. Granahan and the late Mary (nee Corcoran) Granahan; brother of the late Joseph Granahan Jr., Marilyn Granahan and Francine (Granahan) Christy. After graduating from La Salle High School, Jack attended the St. Charles Borromeo Seminary for two years prior to transferring to St. Joseph's University to complete his bachelor's degree. In 1960, he married his first wife, Kathryn (Lombaer) Granahan (1937-1986) after they both studied at Catholic University. They had 4 boys, John, Kevin, Rob and Brian, moving to Concord in 1968, where he remained the rest of his life. Professionally, Jack Granahan started his investing career at Wellington Management Company, first in Philadelphia and then in Boston. A CFA, he quickly became a standout analyst, then a successful fund manager, leaving to start his own firm in 1980. Jack Granahan's legacy as a small cap specialist lives on today in Granahan Investment Management, a boutique investment manager located in Waltham, Massachusetts for the past 38 years. After his first wife Kay's passing in 1986, Jack married Kathleen (Wozniak) Granahan in 1989. Ever active, he loved playing tennis, golf, bridge and poker, and anything that would allow him to spend more time with his grandkids. The center of Jack's world was his family, his six sons, along with his 11 grandchildren. His house in Gloucester was frequently the stage for parties, both large and small, where Jack shined, glowing in the love and happiness that was his strength. His irresistible spirit emboldened the people close to him, fostering many successful careers and inspiring many others in their pursuits. He always kept in close contact with his friends and family in Philadelphia, keeping his keen intellect and witty sense of humor sharp for the many social occasions he made time for. Jack is survived by his wife of 34 years, Kathleen; his sons, John and wife, Rita of Woburn, Kevin of Treviso, Italy, Rob and wife, Laura of Concord, Brian and wife, Christina of Sudbury, Christopher and wife, Darcy of Groton, and David of Boston; his grandkids, Chiara, Nicholas, Silvia, Samuel, Caroline, Kayla, Casey, Matthew, Elena, Chloe, Piper; his sisters, Marilyn of Amber, Pennsylvania, Francine and her husband, James of Radnor, Pennsylvania. Family and friends are invited to gather for Visiting Hours on Tuesday, December 26, from 4 to 7 pm, in the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, CONCORD CENTER. Jack's Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 27, at 10 am, in St. Bernard's Church at Holy Family Parish, 12 Monument Square, Concord Center. Burial will follow at St. Bernard's Cemetery in Concord.
