JOHN CIRIACOS HOUHOULIS

1932 - 2022

HOUHOULIS, John Ciriacos Born in Boston in 1932 into a first-generation Greek American family. After the death of his mother Efemia while he was a teenager, John quickly took on the role of champion for his family, including his father, Ciriacos, and older siblings, Marjorie and Jimmy, despite his young age. This quiet and noble steadfastness for loved ones would remain a core principle of his life.

After graduating from Boston Latin School, John was the first in his family to attend college, earning his bachelor's degree in Economics at Bates College in Lewiston, Maine. After briefly serving in the United States Army, John moved to New York City where he was an officer at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York for 25 years. This is also where he met his beloved wife of 53 years, Cathy. In 1981, he embraced an opportunity for change by founding his own business on Cape Cod as owner & innkeeper of the Seafarer of Chatham. John & Cathy thrived in this bucolic environment, where they raised their two sons, Adam and Owen.

Upon their retirement to Florida in 1998, John & Cathy treasured their many trips to Europe, especially in studying languages and discovering local gems that were off the beaten path. Throughout his life and travels, John remained a lover of opera music, Greek dancing, economics, good food, and interesting conversations.

John passed away peacefully on April 29, 2022 at the age of 89, at his home in Fort Myers, Florida, surrounded by his loving wife and sons. His final resting place is alongside his parents and siblings in the beautiful Mount Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Rest in peace, and thank you, Yanni. www.harvey-engelhardt.com
