JOHN KANE Obituary

KANE, John Of Quincy, died peacefully on August 27, 2025. Born in South Boston, on September 3, 1939, to Daniel and Marie (Butler) Kane, John had fond memories of growing up in a large, close-knit family. He was a graduate of Gate of Heaven High School (1957) and served in the Army Reserves. John worked for the telephone company, and upon retirement, went on to assist FEMA on recovery and rebuilding efforts after emergencies. John was a gentleman in the truest sense of the word. His generosity and thoughtfulness touched and uplifted four generations of his family. He was known for his life-altering gifts, just when they were needed most. He unfailingly joined his mother and sister's family for dinner on Fridays. He took his nieces to Filene's in Boston for the finest outfits for holidays. John was the first to celebrate other's achievements and talked with great pride about his family. Uncle John was generous to a fault with his nieces and nephews. He shared his love of travel and of life's luxuries with them. John opened the door to memorable adventures and exposed them to the theater, arts and travel. He taught them the importance of thoughtful giving and helping family. John's fondest memories were of trips that included his large network of family and friends. Many joined him in his travels across Europe and to visit his father's birthplace in Ireland. He went often to Ireland and kept connections strong to his family still there. John was predeceased by his parents, Daniel and Marie; brother, Daniel; and sister-in-law, Kathleen. John was the beloved brother of Thomas and his wife, Susan of South Boston, Theresa of Quincy and William and his wife, Patricia of Wilmington. His many nieces, nephews and cousins will miss him deeply. He was fortunate to have close friends who brought him comfort through his final days. Mass will be celebrated at St. Brigid's Church, on September 6, 2025, at 10am. See www.Keohane.com for online condolences.
