JOHN EDWARD "JACK" MARTIN

1932 - 2022

MARTIN, John Edward "Jack" Of Falmouth, died on May 6, 2022. He was 89 years old. He was born on October 5, 1932, in Waltham, MA. He served his country during the Korean War as an SP3 (T) in the United States Army. Jack worked in WKBG-56's Accounting Department and mentored many. He joined 56 in November 1966, before sign-on. He was formerly the Weekend Obituary Editor for The Boston Globe. He finished his career as a lawyer, acing his bar exam first time out. He got his Law Degree in 1983 from Suffolk University. He was a lawyer with Black & Bono until his retirement in 1991. His love of the English language and Latin was unmatched. A simple word would never do if there was a more concise word, no matter how obscure, to be employed. and he'd school you right then and there. He was a walking encyclopedia, pre-dating Google by decades. His depth of knowledge was astounding, which accounted for the constant flow of mere mortals to his office, seeking wisdom or solace or a favor. He is survived by sister-in-law Marion Romano, nephew Ralph Gaeta, and friend Beverly Kirk. He is also survived by the family of the late John Graceffa, Maria Taylor and husband Patrick Taylor, Laura Graceffa Schlessman and husband Mark Schlessman, and nephew Paul Graceffa. He was predeceased by his mother Ester Morris and his wife Doris H. Martin. Visitation will take place on Thursday, May 12, 2022, from 10 – 11:30 AM at Chapman Funerals & Cremations, 475 Main St., FALMOUTH, MA. A Funeral Mass will follow at Noon at St. Patrick's Church, 511 Main St., Falmouth, MA, followed by Burial at Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, MA.
