Paquelet and Paquelet & Arnold-Lynch Funeral HomesAlma Joan Martin, born on April 5, 1930, peacefully passed away on March 27, 2026. A dedicated and cherished member of the Massillon community, Alma's life was a testament to devotion—both to her faith and her loved ones.
Alma's career as an elementary teacher with Massillon City Schools was marked by an unwavering commitment to education and the nurturing of young minds. Praised for her outstanding work ethic, she consistently encouraged her students and family alike with the wise counsel to "always do your best and do what is right." Through her teaching, Alma left an indelible impact on countless children, shaping futures with patience, kindness, and firm guidance.
Her educational journey began at Washington High School, followed by earning her Bachelor’s degree from Kent State University. These accomplishments laid the foundation for a lifetime of learning and teaching, reflecting her strong moral character and dedication to personal growth.
A proud matriarch, Alma was deeply devoted to her large family, cherishing her children, grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren. She had an abundant generosity and warmth that embraced her entire family circle. Alma treasured family gatherings, often hosting holiday celebrations at her home, where love and laughter intertwined. She especially enjoyed taking trips with her family to Tappan Lake, creating treasured memories that will endure in the hearts of those who knew her.
Alma’s rich personality was further expressed through her many interests and activities. She was a clarinet player and delighted in square dancing and playing cards. Loyal to her roots, Alma enjoyed watching our local and ohio sports teams. She participated actively in a writing group, leaving us with many stories of our family history. Alma also engaged in a sewing circle which made many items that were donated to missions. She always made time to support her family’s activities—from school events and sporting games to religious ceremonies, graduations, and weddings.
Her great devotion to Jesus was a cornerstone of her life. Alma was a faithful member of Divine Mercy Parish at St. Barbara’s Catholic Church in Massillon, attending mass regularly and living her life guided by deep spiritual values.
Alma is lovingly remembered by her surviving children: Ann Peterson, Rosemary (Dan) Barlow, Jane (Mark) Morrow, Stephen (Cheryl) Martin, Juliana (Jim) Roth, and Kevin (Julie) Martin. She also leaves behind her brother Phillip Zepp, as well as numerous grandchildren: Josh, Eric, Molly, Betsy, Andy, Jeremy, Rob, Joel, Sarah, Laura, Emily, Marie, Brian, Alicia, Elizabeth, Anna, James, Teresa, Zachary, Kara and great-grandchildren: Aaron, Joe, Hannah, Sarah, Griffin, Hollis, Carter, Evie, Wesley, Hunter, Maddie, Adalyn, Asher, Lilly, Bo, Jasper, Ariella, Landon, Deacon, Easton, Anderson, Sam, Abe, Claire, Quinn, June, Reid, Cassie, Ben, Abbie, and Francis.
