JOHN MCCARTHY Obituary

McCARTHY, John J. "Jack" Of Amherst, NH, died on December 5, 2021 at Elliot Hospital. He was 87 years old. He was born in Cambridge, MA, in 1934, the son of John and Esther (Nolan) McCarthy.

Jack graduated from Arlington High School in Arlington, MA. He received a bachelor's degree from Boston College in 1956 and a master's degree in business administration from Northeastern University in 1964.

Jack's banking career extended over a period of 35 years. Initially, he worked at State Street Bank of Boston, where he was a Vice President. He was later Chairman and President of the Souhegan National Bank of Milford in Milford, NH, before joining the Oneida Savings Bank in Oneida, NY, in 1990, as Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer.

After joining the Reserve Officers' Training Corps while attending Boston College, Jack went on to serve in the U.S. Army Reserves and retired as a Captain after 6 years of service.

He was predeceased by his loving wife Rosemary C. (Lyons) McCarthy.

Jack is survived by his son John McCarthy, Jr. of Portland, ME; his daughter Maureen Laflam of Concord, NH and her husband Robert; his daughter Carol Luetmer of Wausau, WI and her husband Paul; his daughter Rosemary McCarthy of Center Harbor, NH; his daughter Nancy Luongo of Bedford, NH and her husband Anthony; and his son Stephen McCarthy of Merrimack, NH and his wife Kristen.

Jack is also survived by 13 grandchildren: Catherine, Connor and Michaella McCarthy; Andrew, Rosemary and Renee Laflam and Michelle Horgan; Anna LaRosa and Grace, William and Madeline Luetmer; and Nicholas and Addison McCarthy.

Private Funeral Services will be held at Smith & Heald Funeral Home in MILFORD, NH. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration (https://www.theaftd.org/get-involved/ways-to-give/), a cause that was important to Jack because of his son Stephen's ongoing struggle with the disease.

Keeping the McCarthy family in my prayers. I met Mr McCarthy back in 1978. He always had a kind word and loved talking to us kids growing up in Amherst. I will miss him.
