JOHN MCCARTHY Obituary

McCARTHY, John A. Jr. Age 65, entrepreneur, beloved father and grandfather and citizen of Boston, died on Saturday, August 31, 2024. He will be missed by all who knew his laugh and smile, empathy, generosity and curiosity for life. John was an avid and skilled golfer and an active member of Woodland Golf Club for 35 years. He was an accomplished cyclist and 6-time participant in the 192-mile Pan-Mass Challenge charity ride. John loved being physically active, sharing good food and wine with friends, playing paddle tennis, taking long walks on the Esplanade, skiing and reading non-fiction books. John was born in Evanston, IL and grew up in New Canaan, CT, graduating from New Canaan High School in 1977. He received a BS from Lehigh University in 1981 and an MBA from Harvard Business School in 1987. John started his career in investment banking, before transitioning to the healthcare field where he held CEO, CFO and board roles with medical technology companies. More recently, John co-founded LuxMed Systems in 2019, where he served as Chief Business Officer until his death. John enjoyed sharing his wisdom and time and was active in the start-up community, serving as an investor, advisor and board member for early-stage companies. John was a great listener and believed in paying forward the mentorship he received from others as a young man. John is survived by his former wife, Cathy McCarthy; daughters, Erin and Kara; son-in-law, Chris Moses; grandson, Carson; sisters, Claire Alexander, Susan Stetson and Kelly McCarthy; and brother, Thomas McCarthy, who all loved him very much. A Visitation will be held at 9am, on Friday, September 13, at Saint Cecelia Parish in Boston, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in his honor. Lawler & Crosby Funeral Home 617-323-5600

I feel like a lost my little brother from the days when the McCarthy family lived down the street from me in Cleveland Hts, Ohio. I was often the sixth child at the McCarthy dinner table, feeling like a member of the family. John was one of my "brothers" and when I saw John at his mother´s funeral, I was gratified to see what an elegant, accomplished person he had become. So sad for his loss. Sending love to family members grieving his loss. Love, Oleo (Kristin Olsen Kiser)

Uncle John has been a name and a person that has been in our lives for the past 20+ years. He was a loving uncle that visibly made a difference in the life of my best friend and, now, son´s godmother. We will deeply miss him and the love he shared.

Rest in Peace, Uncle John.

My Heart goes out to all The McCarthys during this sad time
John and I have been friends at Woodland GC for 30 years and we had some great golf matches!!!
I had the pleasure of seeing Kara and Chris at Woodland GC and meeting their little Cherub and probably Woodland´s youngest member Carson!!! I will keep all The McCarthys in my prayers and know that God will help you through these challenging days!!!
Warmest Regards,
Frankie Galvin
