OMG! I'm so saddened to learn of Dr. Melling's passing! He treated me as an adult for my orthodontic needs and had the most warm and engaging practice and team of caregivers. He was as gracious and kind as he was a gifted practitioner. It is such a loss to this area of practice as well as to the countless people he treated; with the gift of a bright and beautiful smile. I loved going to see him, particularly the day I got my braces removed! Everyone who worked there loved him and you could tell that his patients all loved him as well. I recently learned that I need to wear braces once again, and reached out to his office to follow up, it breaks my heart that his family and the medical world has lost such a lovely, talented man. I wish his family and close friends ever possible blessing and wish for peace. I'm so very sorry for your loss. I am devestated.

My sincere condolences to John's family and staff. You have the good fortune of receiving similar messages from scores of people who will remember him fondly. Be assured there are many many more out there who feel the same. John has had the great good fortune of being well loved by family and friends and also his patients. He still possesses the great legacy of improving the lives of possibly thousands of people through his skill. I am imagining all the smiles that are continuing evidence of his good works. In a profession that inherently makes most people profoundly uncomfortable, he had rare gifts to make the whole process painless and perhaps even fun . Family , friends and staff should all be comforted . He has left behind much evidence of what a great guy he was. What a lucky man to have been the architect of so many smiles.

From Paula Wharton and the Wharton Family: We were so deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Dr. Melling. Our most sincere sympathy and prayers go out to all his family and his staff. Dr. Melling was a true classic in every way - so kind, thoughtful, generous, loving, caring, and fun. Everyone who knew him loved him! His warmth, charm, quick wit, humor, love, and caring radiated from his soul. He loved getting to know his patients and was always interested in their activities and achievements. A true gentleman and an outstanding accomplished orthodontist. Our 3 sons will forever appreciate their beautiful smiles and will always remember Dr. Melling with warmth and fondness. And I will always appreciate and remember with fondness the consultative care he provided me for a year after our sons were done, refusing to charge a dime..so generous! And it was always great fun chatting with him (and the wonderful staff) during my visits. Dr. Melling left a wonderful legacy in this area of beautiful smiles, warmth, love, and caring. He is an example of what every doctor/dentist should be. He will be sorely missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with all who knew and loved him.

Very sad, to hear of Dr Mellings passing. I was apprehensive of braces but he reassured me all would be fine. Along the process I made a very good friend. I appriceate him as a Dr, a friend and a person. My condolences to his family

My daughters are grown now and it has been years since we saw Dr. Melling in his Milford office. He was a wonderful and kind man. He always had a smile on his face and followed the girls in their sports. Their smiles will always remind me of that special man and orthodontist. Our condolences to his family and staff.

We are so saddened to hear this news. One other person said it right...you never forget the good people that pass through your lives. Dr. Melling was such a kind and gentle man. We are forever grateful for having known him, albeit briefly. He was my son's orthodontist. As someone else said, to know him was to adore him. I remember him chatting with my son about sports and him telling us about when his son made his first home run in baseball. I can imagine that he was the best father! Our condolences to you all. We'll miss him dearly.

Dr. Melling was a great man and doctor and we were so glad to have found him for my daughter. My only mistake was not using him for my son, as someone else was referred to us for him. It didn't work out.So sorry for your loss so young, my thoughts and prayers go out to his family and staff.

I am so saddened by the loss of this great man! I was a patient of Dr. Melling's in my teenage years and have fond memories of doing the "electric slide" with him in the office. He always made me smile and certainly helped me be prouder of that smile! Saw Dr. Melling again a few years ago and it was like no time had passed-always a great guy, with a great attitude and a way of making the time in the Ortho chair actually fun. My thoughts and prayers are with his family at this time.

My three sons all wore braces provided by Dr Melling. He always had a smile on his face and made the kids feel comfortable and relaxed. He would know what their interest were and would make it a point to engage them in a relavent topic. His work was a passion to him. My youngest had been out of braces for a little over a year when he got hit in the mouth with a baseball. Dr Melling was so moved by it, he shed a tear and proceeded to do the corrective work for no charge. Thats the type of guy he was. My condolonces to the entire family. He was a great guy!
