After a year of 'Uncle John's' passing, it is amazing how vital he continues to be. I miss him and his parter John because of the mentoring and friendship they both showed me. This past year we have also lost two of his dynamic musical children, David Triestram and Angela Vanstory Ward. With the help of Janice Hall and Shauna Holliman, there is now a plaque at Opera America commemorating John's career as mentor, conductor and friend. Thank you, ladies, for seeing this through. Anyone who encountered J.M. knows how fitting this tribute is for his expertise and passion. There were also some funds for scholarship to New England Conservatory and Central City Opera House Apprenticeships. Thank you to all who were there for the presentation. Thank you, Uncle John, for being such a dynamic influence on my life.

It is with profound sorrow and joy that I share with so many the loss of John Moriarty.. John (Uncle John, JM, Sir John) was the most influential mentor that any of us could ever have hoped for. For me, he was teacher, disciplinarian, friend, pianist, conductor and so much more. In my career as vocal coach/pianist, I access his information daily since being his student at The Boston Conservatory and New England Conservatory in 1978. His influence is heard throughout the world. Because of his teaching, his book (Diction), his pianism and his direction, he has touched the lives of countless careers. His influence as director of Apprentice Programs throughout America has changed other such programs everywhere. Opera companies have studied his methods and used them as templates in developing their own programs. The opera world globally has seen and heard the results of his sharing. I salute you, Uncle John, and thank you for all your gifts. My life has changed because of your love for our business. His life will resound for generations to come.
