I worked closely with John over a number of years in establishing and growing the Killam Fellowships program. Thanks to John's vision and his generosity, this program has supported more than 500 extraordinary university students and played a modest but important role in advancing Canada - US friendship. I had the privilege of taking many meals with John and Kate, hosting them both in Ottawa, and beyond, and being hosted at their beautiful home. John was kind and wise. He had a fantastically positive outlook and naturally inquisitive nature. I will miss him, but take some comfort in the fact that this was a life exceptionally well lived.

I served with John for a number of years on the Board of the Unitarian Universalist Society for Ministerial Relief. Wonderful and dedicated man with an amazing mind for detail. Also humble: had no idea of John's many other interests and talents. He will be missed! (Very sorry that a previous commitment will prevent me from attending his memorial gathering on August 2.)

As a member of the advisory board of the Trustees for Donation to Education in Liberia (TDEL), I had the privilege and opportunity to meet John at many of TDEL's events. He always had a pleasant disposition. He will be sorely missed for his contributions to the advancement of higher education in Liberia, especially at the University of Liberia through his work with TDEL. My condolences and sympathies to TDEL and his family.
