JOHN O'BRIEN Obituary

O'BRIEN, John W. "Toothpick" Age 86, of Newton passed away on March 27, 2019, in Woburn. Visitation will be 1-5pm, Sunday, March 31st at Andrew J Magni & Son FH, 365 Watertown St., NEWTON. Funeral Mass will be held at 9am Monday, April 1, in Our Lady Help of Christians Parish, 573 Washington St., Newton. Burial will follow at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne (Cape Cod). John was born in Newton to Mark and Nora on April 30, 1932. He was married to Marie on November 13th 1954 in Newton until her death in 2011. He worked as an International Transportation and Logistic Professional for five decades and was President Emeritus of the Boston Foreign Commerce Club. He was a veteran of the Korean War and served in the Air Force and was awarded United Nations Service Medal and National Defense Service Medal. He was also a Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus Honorary Life Member, Member of the American Legion and Lifetime member of the Elks. He loved reading the paper, listening to Irish music, going to the Red Sox games, and the Bean Pot Tournament and a dear friend of Bill W. John was preceded in death by his parents Mark and Nora, his brother Francis and his wife Marie (Deagle). John is survived by his daughter Sharon and her husband Lenny Lagasse from Burlington, his daughter Karen and her husband John Callan from Lakeland FL, his son Mark O'Brien and his wife Dawn of Dracut, his son John A. O'Brien of California, his sisters Mary Bibbo, Ann Wolf and Eileen Barry, Grandchildren: Christopher Lanni, Nicole Lanni and Katelyn Callan, His only great-grandchild, Olivia Rose Lanni.
