PLIAKAS, John A. Age 85, passed away at his home, on October 15, 2024. Born in Providence, RI, on July 11, 1939, he was the son of the late Andrew and Kalliope (Zakas) Pliakas; and brother to George Pliakas and the late Demetra (Pliakas) Coclin. John brought joy and laughter to everyone around him and was a great mentor and inspiration to friends and family. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, integrity, and a deeply rooted commitment to his family, which he cherished above all else. From an early age, John demonstrated exceptional drive and focus. He enjoyed and excelled in the Boys Scouts, culminating in achieving the rank of Eagle Scout as the youngest in Rhode Island-an early testament to his determined spirit. He went on to graduate from Babson College with a degree in Business, while also serving in the Army Reserve, which paved the way for a remarkable career. John's work ethic was unmatched, and he took great pride in his professional accomplishments, working as an executive with EF Hutton, Legg Mason, Hambrecht & Quist, and other prestigious institutions. His unwavering commitment to excellence, coupled with a natural ease for leadership, earned him the respect of colleagues and clients alike. Many of those he worked with over the years remained life-long friends and many shared stories of John's mentorship and how he impacted their lives upon learning of his passing. While John's professional life was notable, his role as a provider truly defined him. He took immense pride in ensuring his family had everything they needed, pouring himself into both work and home with the same dedication. John is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Marsha, who was his rock and partner. Together, they built a loving home in North Andover filled with laughter and great memories. John is also survived by his children, Cynthia Pliakas-Dery, Roger Pliakas and Chris Pliakas; his son-in-law, Matt Dery; and daughter-in-law, Kristin Pliakas; his grandchildren, Phoebe Pliakas-Smith, Adelie Pliakas, Bretton Pliakas and Donovan Pliakas; and his nieces and nephews, George Coclin, Elaine Coclin, Andrew Coclin, Paula Pliakas and Adam Doolittle. John's legacy lives on through the family he loved so dearly and the lives he touched with his kindness and humor.
