JOHN RUDD Obituary

RUDD, John Joseph III Passed away with his family by his side on December 31, 2017. He was born on April 7, 1955 at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina and grew up in Lexington, Massachusetts as the cherished first son of Margaret Rudd Brawley. John was the beloved husband of Linda (Dostou) Rudd for over 37 years as well as the proud and loving father to his two daughters, Alexis and Ashley Rudd and their boyfriends Andy Crawford and Matt Steward. He was a dear older brother to five siblings and their spouses - Kevin and MaryAnn Rudd, Kathy and Barry Arsenault, Maureen and Sean Higgins, Margaret and Rick Arieta and Susan and Daniel Veno. John was also an uncle to thirteen nieces and nephews as well as a son-in-law to Mildred Dostou and the late Steven Dostou and a brother-in-law to Jamie Dostou.

John loved his hometown of Lexington as well as his adopted home of 25 years - Bedford, Massachusetts - where he served on the Capital Expenditures Committee. A graduate of Lexington High School and Northeastern University, John proudly served his community on the Lexington police force from 1973 to 1978, acted as the Grand Knight at the Lexington Knights of Columbus Council and participated in various charitable causes over the years. He spent his career in defense contracting at Honeywell, Electro-Optics/BAE Systems, American Science & Engineering and Schafer Corporation.

John fostered lifelong passions for American history, reading, golf, tropical getaways, home improvement projects, gardening, classic cars and Boston sports. An avid fan of all Boston teams, he waited patiently to watch the Patriots win a Super Bowl and to see his beloved Red Sox finally win a World Series. John delighted in the many Boston championships that followed. Above all, he loved spending time with his family who will miss him immensely.

The family wishes to extend deepest appreciation to the doctors and nurses of Lahey Clinic in Burlington, Massachusetts and Whittier Rehabilitation Hospital in Bradford, Massachusetts.

Visiting hours will occur from 10 to 11AM on Saturday, January 6 at St. Brigid Catholic Church in Lexington. A service to celebrate John's life will immediately follow. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Donations may be made in John's memory to the American Lung Association, 1661 Worcester Road, Suite 301, Framingham, MA 01701, or to Whittier Rehabilitation Hospital, 145 Ward Hill Ave, Bradford, MA 01835.
