A lot can be learned about a man from how he treats children. Mr. Wilson was a favorite of the neighborhood kids at the Cape in the early 70's and beyond stretching down to later generations of children he befriended in their youth. When you were at the Wilson home you felt like you were in your own home and that you were one of the gang. You were. It was there that my Brothers and I learned to love pepperichininis. I heard Mr. Wilson ask more than once, when I was knee high to a grasshopper, “who ate all my pepperichininis” knowing full well it was his son Jack and, most likely, some of the Perry boys as well. Jack always took the “hit” for us. I honestly can say, to this day, that I never eat a pepperichinini without thinking of Mr. Wilson. We were, as a family, actually heart broken when it came time to sell our 25 foot Bertram because we, as a family, grew up on that boat. That boat never failed us once. We were all relieved when it was sold to Mr. Wilson because he was a kindred spirit who would come to love that boat, with his family, as much as we did. Mr. Wilson always knew boats; we loved looking at all of them from the Grady White to the 233 Formula Sport Model to the Bertram. We are all glad he had a “Sudden Impulse” because we never stop admiring his 25 Bertram. It is said that the “Sun never sets on the Bertram Empire”. It does not. Likewise, the Sun never sets on Eel Ponders either. They don't pass away they just go to their next Port. Something tells me Mr. Wilson likes new Port just fine. Mr Wilson – may the Sun always be on your shoulders and may the wind always be at your back. God bless you.

Mr. Wilson remains a permanent fixture of Seacoast. In the 1970s the Wilson house introduced the Perry brothers to pepporicini and a striped bass. Mr. Wilson always respected anyone he met. His big smile and real laugh made a day better. His relationship with the Perry kids was typical....he always made us feel welcome, he cared and if we stepped out of line it didn't go too far. It was in the cold of a Cape spring he would walk over and help if a boat needed lifting, a car needed a push start, a tool could be lended that made him a true friend. Seacoast has lost the last of the true bucks from the '70's. It's up to the next generations to care for each other as much as he did. It's the cold March rainy day that a boat needed a tow and he was there...and not just a hand on a warm July 4th. God bless Mr. Wilson. The Perry's will miss him dearly.

You will be missed by so many people. Memories of the Cape and fishing-catching my first blue fish with you. You were the father I never had. Rest in peace Pop. Love you always.
