His smile could light up any room! Whenever I see a pack of "juicy fruit" gum I will think of him. He supported everyone in Dedham! I recall him attending every sporting event that he could, from football to field hockey. He was also a great supporter of Saint Mary's Life Teen! Though he is no longer with us, Shad will continue to remain in the hearts of many people. God Bless Joseph "Shad" Araby, a true Dedham Legend!

Yes, Shad was a terrific guy. His first favorite pasttime was no doubt the Dedham High sports. He cheered the kids louder and stronger than anyone. I also saw this person at CM/Xaverian tournament games rooting on these teams. He really loved to see the kids do well. He'll be missed. thanks for setting the great example Shad!!!

To the Family of Shad,

As a graduate of the class of 98 I remember Shad fondly. He was at so many games and events at the high school. I won't forget him having such a good time at my graduation party! You were blessed with such an amazing family member. We were all blessed to know him. I have never met someone so kind and sincere to everyone he met. He was a mentor and role model to me without knowing it. I will carry inspiring memories from him forever. He touched my heart and I am so greatful to have known him. I will miss him a lot but like he always said "it's not goodbye it's see you later!"

Shad it's great to read all of the accolades for your support of athletics..........but you were a great supporter of those of us involved in music and the high school band. I'm sure many don't know that you played clarinet and often jammed with various kids from the band. In life, you were a true treasure to the youth of Dedham.....Goodbye old friend

I was by no means a great athlete in high school. Freshman year I played for the B team in basketball. Shad Araby watched every game. Every Game! "Nice job number 12. Good defense number 12. Good shooting number 12."

He was being kind. A bright spot in an otherwise forgetable high school experience. I've often reflected on his support and good nature.

Uncle Joe,

There will never be another man like you. What an amazing, gentle, caring man you were to everyone. You will be sorely missed. I will never forget the way I was greeted by you each time I came to your home. "Keep smiling!", "Beautiful!". You will always hold a special place in my heart. Your memory will live on forever simply because of who you were. God bless you and rest in peace.

Shad was loved by all, it didn't take much to make him happy, just saying hello and he was smiling. I will always remember him asking me each time I said hello to Shad he would ask me "How's your Mom" Not many people could relate to the young and old as well as Shad could, he knew everyone and everyone loved him, he was also the oldest "Teen of the Week" at St. Mary's Lifeteen. Dedham has lost a wonderful, thoughtful, and compassionate man, he will be sadly missed.

To the family of Shad,

I am truly sorry for your loss. To know Shad was to love him. I don't think I ever saw Shad without a smile on his face. Being a graduate of Dedham High, I have fond memories of Shad's illuminating presence at many events. When walking to jr high in the morning my friends and I would see Shad raising the flag in front of the High School and we'd stop to say the Pledge of Allegience; Shad would comment, years after the fact, how much he appreciated that.

My thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time,

Mary Kate Loughran

We have lost a "LEGEND" in the Town of Dedham. I have many fond memories of your "Dad". There wasn't a Valentine's Day, St.Pat's Day, Easter or Christmas that a card didn't arrive at the Dedham Police Department signed "Keep Smiling" Love Shad - I shall miss him terribly. One day while he was sitting on the "Famous Park Bench" I ran accross the street and gave him a big hug - two days later (2) boxes of goodies arrived from Guarino's with enough pastry to feed Dedham. When asked why he did that I was told "you made my day". Shad was a wonderful human being, full of love and compassion for the "little guy". You were blessed to have such a wonderful Father and Brother. I loved him in a very special way.

Be Still

Be still like the grass on a melancholy summer day
Be still like desert shrub.

Be calm and you will hear your loved one speak, in the stillness, in the calm, their love resounds.

If you are still this promise I make, you will hear the voice of your loved one helping you along your way.
