My husband Joe and your Joe were great friends and fierce adversaries on the football field and loved meeting at class reunions to rehash who had the better team. Wakefield and melrose had an even record. I always stayed out of it, as I was from Melrose.

Joe's mother, Marion, was a dear friend from the First Baptist Church of Melrose. I'm sure she and Bob were among the people on the other side shouting "Here he comes". This is referencing the poem by Henry vanDyke called "The Ship" which depicts dying in a profound way. If you google "The Ship" I'm sure it will stay in your hearts. My sympathy to all of Joe's friends and family. karen Poor.
