Joe's mother, Marion, was a dear friend from the First Baptist Church of Melrose. I'm sure she and Bob were among the people on the other side shouting "Here he comes". This is referencing the poem by Henry vanDyke called "The Ship" which depicts dying in a profound way. If you google "The Ship" I'm sure it will stay in your hearts.
