I still think of Joe every time I see "This Old House". I remember his work ethic and his love for his family, expressed so well in his profile on the program. He made a great impression on me beyond simply talking about his trade and workmanship. That's the mark of a truly special person.

I know that this week must bring back all the painful memories of a year ago. However, this is also the time to recall all the great memories and the many years that you and Joe shared,. And, it's also a time to remember the quality time that you spent with the fabulous children that the two of you raised together.

I only knew Joe from TOH but I enjoyed seeing him whenever he appeared on the show. He was obviously very skillful at his craft, and he came across as a very honest human being and a no nonsense kind of guy. I will surely miss him.

Our family learned of Joe's passing after viewing TOH on our local PBS station on January 10th.

I always enjoyed Joe's segments and probably never would have taken on some of the home tiling projects I have if it were not for Joe's friendly advice on TOH. I viewed "TOH" in the New York area tonight and was saddened to hear the news of Joe's passing. I have been a regular viewer for over 25 years. I always enjoyed him on the show and admired his knowledge and skill. He always came across as a Tradesman who enjoyed and took pride in his work. TOH aired in Chicago today/1/5/08 and so we learned of Joe's passing. I was so saddened to hear the news of his passing.
I just want the family to know that he will be with you always...he will live on in spirit and you'll see that often in the things and people around you.
May the good Lord bring you peace and comfort in the days ahead. I pray that your faith is strong, you'll need to draw on it often.
I pass along this Psalm that a good friend passed on to me 2 years ago after we lost our 4-year old daughter:

I only knew of Joe from TOH and could tell that he was a good family man and good person in every other aspect of life. His smile and demeanor would transcend the television screen and make you feel as though he was talking to friends. My heart is so sad. The first time I met Joe, Ellen and I were on the beach, I saw this tall, handsome man and said to Ellen,"Wow, look at him" She responded, "I know. He's with me" They've been together ever since. It's been so long. I can't remember what year that was. Even though I have lost touch with the family, I do know that he adored his. My memory is of a big smile, always upbeat, friendly. A Sincere man who was loyal. He will be missed.

I cannot say how sorry I am to hear of the passing of Joe. I am in the tile industry have known Joe through work for twenty three years and more importantly have considered him a dear friend. Joe is one of the nicest people that I have ever been associated with. Joe was always upbeat and I always enjoyed talking to him. When I first met Joe I knew him as a professional in the tile industry and when I got to know him I realized he was a wonderful man. The one thing that I want to say is that Joe was a family man because he would always speak about his family who he loved so much. I will miss Joe but will never forget him. He will always live in my heart.
