JOSEPH IARROBINO Obituary

IARROBINO, Brother Joseph Edmund Vincent Iarrobino was born Dec.1, 1931, the son of Pasquale and Anna (Kelly) Iarrobino, in Newton, MA. He graduated from Boston College in 1953. "Eddie" played four years on the golf team. The BC Varsity Club inducted him into their Hall of Fame on Sept. 21, 2008. A monk in the Order of St. Benedict since November 1, 1979, died of a stroke on Monday, March 20, 2023 at St. Andrew's Abbey in Valyermo, CA. Before entering the religious life, Brother Joseph served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He played in numerous fund-raising golf tournaments (including Bong Crosby & Frank Sinatra). He was devoted to the Abbey's need to raise money for a Youth Chapel which was built and called The Chapel of the Annunciation. A plaque says "In memory of Pasquale and Anna Iarrobino." He was predeceased by his parents and siblings, including four brothers: Naval Aviation Cadet, Francis, Capt. Charles (USN Ret.), Capt. John (USN Ret.), and Paul; and sister, Mary Balzarini. He is survived by his twin sister, Nancy Wischnowski; nieces, Anne, Gail, Patricia, & Christine; nephews, James & Daniel; and cousins, Tom Flannery, Anthony Iarrobino, and Paul Kelly. A Funeral Mass will be held Monday, March 27, 2023. Donations to the Abbey, in lieu of flowers, can be sent to: St. Andrews Abbey, P.O. Box 40, Valyermo, CA 93563.

I´m sorry to hear about Brother Joseph´s passing. I knew him, when he was Brother Edmund at St. Joseph´s Convalescent Hospital in Ojai. As a 6YO, he introduced my sister, Joanna & me to golf. We learned how to putt & hit the ball, `with our head over the ball!´ I had no idea how invaluable his professional golfing tips would help me, later on in life, beyond golf. Invaluable!

He was such a patient & kind teacher & good family friend. We were fortunate to have him, as part of our extended family, "ohana". He regularly, checked in with Mom to make sure she was doing okay, when Dad was in the SNF. He also helped Mom through, during & after Dad´s eventual passing in August 2021.

I know he will be missed by our family. I will always remember his calm voice & demeanor. We appreciated his kindness, compassion & spirituality (his love for God & Humanity). He´s a rare person with a heart of gold that we were lucky to know. I feel fortunate to have known him all my life. Sending much love to his sisters & surviving family members.
