JOSEPH MARIANI Obituary

MARIANI, Joseph
To Know Him Was To Love Him
Joseph Mariani of Medfield, MA, (originally of Hyde Park), "skipped town" suddenly August 16th at the age of 81, to be reunited in heaven with his wife Dianne 14 years and 8 days after she left us. He was a man who was so very loved, and in turn, loved unconditionally. Quick to smile and laugh, he never gave one solid hug or handshake, but would warmly envelop a person with a series of little squeezes and pats which somehow conveyed how very happy he was to be with that person. He adored being with his family and friends, sharing a delicious meal, lively conversation, sweet and rascally childhood memories, and deep belly chuckles. Nothing was more perfect than becoming a Papa and spending time with all his grandchildren: Gabriel, Luke, Simon, Alice, Cecilia and Jude. In the last nine years of his life, he was blessed to spoil them but he would tell you he was the one who was spoiled. By living between the two homes of his daughters, he was completely immersed in his grandchildren's lives as a constant source of love, affection, silly stories and CHOCOLATE. Proudly teaching them gin rummy, garbage, and poker, he was delighted whenever he lost to them because that meant he taught them so well. To know him was to love him, and to lose him is to grieve him. His daughters and sons-in-law, Jill and Chris Rettig, and Emily and Joe Consilvio; brothers and sisters-in-law Gino and Valerie, Elio and Peggie and Rina, the wife of his late brother Ralph; nieces and nephews, extended family, and dear friends will lead the charge in keeping his spirit alive. But most of all his grandchildren will know and keep his memory fresh with the lessons and love he bestowed upon them. A man of deep faith, he believed his soul would go to the Lord. In celebration, a Catholic Mass will be held at St. Edward Church, Medfield, MA on Friday, August 24th at 10am. Burial to follow at Vine Lake Cemetery, Medfield. In lieu of flowers, Joe requested that people make donations to the charities of their choices. When he would hear that someone was hurting, needed a boost or had unfortunately met hard times, he was quick to act. He wanted to do his small part in helping others have a better life. The best way to honor him is to keep the love going.

Rest in peace, Joey ! I remember the joint Sunday family beach trips to Scituate when we kids in the late 30's, early 40's your father tailgaiting us in his Chevy. They were fun days! Condolences to the Mariani clan. Pepino Mariani and my father were the very best of friends to the very end!
