Rev. Joseph Shea

Age 77, in Hartford, CT. Dec. 29, 50 years a missionary in Madagascar. Beloved son of the late Joseph C. and Catherine R. (McKinnon). Loving brother of Robert E. & his wife Trudy of Boston, Dr. Francis X. & his wife Mary of Bedford, Dr. William & his wife Laura of Lexington and James G. & his wife Janice of Calgary, Alberta. He is also survived by two aunts and many nieces & nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday Dec. 31 in Our Lady of Sorrows Church, New Park Ave. Hartford, CT. at 10:30 AM. Relatives and friend kindly invited. A viewing will take place from 9-10 AM Monday prior to the Mass in the LaSalette Missionary House, 85 New Park Ave, Hartford, CT. Upon his ordination to the priesthood and initiation into the Order of Our Lady of LaSalette Order in 1957, Father Shea volunteered for assignment in the Foreign Missions and thereafter worked ceaselessly to serve the people of Madagascar. He was an accomplished pilot and used his skills to provide food and medical care to those in primitive mining camps. Father Shea also set up programs to assist many afflicted by diseases, such as Leprosy and Polio. To honor Father Shea's life work and passion for the assistance of those less fortunate in Madagascar, the Shea family requests, memorial donations be made to the LaSalette Mission Center, 4650 South Broadway, St. Louis, MO. 63111.
