Dr. Joshua Jacob Hurwitz

Age 85, of Newton, on Sunday, February 18, 2007. Beloved husband of Rose (Kosofsky). Devoted father of Dr. Joel Hurwitz of Natick, Debbie Sussman & her husband Joel of Newton, Ruth Ehrlich & her husband Dr. Barry of Newton, Dr. Charles Hurwitz & his wife Hava of Israel. Loving grandfather of Ari, Jonathan and Mera Sussman, Daniel, Nathan, Jordan and David Ehrlich, Ilan, Yael and Noga Hurwitz. Dear brother of Dr. Israel "Bud" Hurwitz of Sudbury and the late Irene Lappin and Herman Hurwitz. Dear son of the late Ada & Albert Hurwitz. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Services at the Levine Chapels, 470 Harvard St., BROOKLINE on Monday, February 19 at 1:00 p.m. Interment at Sharon Memorial Park. Shiva at his late residence from 2-5:30 p.m. and 6:30-9 p.m. with morning and evening minyan through Sunday morning. Dr. Hurwitz served in the Army Medical Corp in WWII and the Korean War. A graduate of Harvard Medical, Class of 1946. He practiced Urology for 45 years at Waltham and Marlboro Hospitals and the VA in Bedford. He was President of the Charles River Medical Society and the President of the Waltham Hospital Medical Staff. He was chief of Urology at Waltham Hospital for 15 years. He ran his first Boston Marathon in 1945 placing 18th and completing 3 more Boston marathons in his late 60's. He was co-chair of the Social Action Committee at Temple Emanuel of Newton and volunteered for the Little Brothers Friends of the Elderly for many years. Levine Chapels, Brookline 617-277-8300
