I'm so very sorry to hear of the passing of June. It was my pleasure to have been her dental hygienist and friend for twenty years. She was the sweetest and I'm lucky to have known her. Rest in peace sweet June, I will never forget you xoxoxo

I was lucky enough to have Miss Turner for 8th grade social studies in the mid 1970s. I found her a little intimidating at first, but I really appreciated what she taught us (yes, like writing a check!) and the very high standards she set for her students. She was always someone I admired -- a smart, independent, ethical woman who wanted us all to be the same. This period was a time of great activism on women's issues, and Miss Turner was not overtly political, but her example made us girls believe we could do anything.
I also feel very lucky that I happened to live near to Miss Turner's house because I got to know her outside of the student-teacher relationship. In high school and beyond, I would see her often in her yard. I even met her husband and heard their wonderful story of re-finding each other after so many years. I am so glad that she had such a happy, full, and long life.
My heart goes out to her family now. I am sure that she will be greatly missed and she was enormously loved. Realize that she touched the lives of many, many students, and even if we didn't realize it at the time, we benefited greatly from her teaching and from her care. RIP, Miss Turner (She will always be Miss Turner to us, & I mean that with no disrespect. I am so happy she became Mrs. Hazelwood, but to her students, she was Miss Turner -- although some of us did call her June behind her back! :) )
With my warmest condolences....

I had "Miss Turner" for 8th grade social studies. She was a great teacher--tough, but fair, demanding excellence--and a kind person. I recognized her photo immediately (though it's been 45 years!) but I was confused by the name. Then I read that she had married "later in life." I remember her taking the time to teach us some practical things (like how to write a check) that weren't normal "social studies" lessons, because she thought they were important life skills that everyone should know, but were not being taught. She seems to have lived a long and happy life. Rest in peace. Sincerely, Donna Marcotte, WHS class of 1978

I served as Richard and June's financial adviser for many years. Great couple. We shared many conversations at their kitchen table. They loved the wildlife in their backyard. June loved the turkey tips at the 99. We broke bread often. I will miss her kind spirit and gentle ways

June played a great role in my life after I graduated from college. After several interviews I became a member of her department in 1975. She was fair, tough but demanded her department do the best for the students. If any of her colleagues had a crisis June was there for them. June will always be in my thoughts and prayers
