Lawrence James Leone

LEONE, Lawrence "Larry" James Of South Dennis, a resident of Dennis since 1970, died at home, surrounded by his children, on February 14th after a battle with cancer, at the age of 85. He was the husband of the late Marilyn (Burdg) Leone for 37 years. Mr. Leone was born in Newton, MA. He graduated from Newton High School in '43 and then attended the Massachusetts Institute of Radio until he was called to join the Armed Forces. He served with the 347th Infantry Regiment of the 87th Infantry Division (Patton's 3rd Army) in France, Belgium, Luxembourg, and Germany. He was awarded the Bronze Star for participating in the Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe campaigns. Mr. Leone's civic experiences included being the Civil Defense Director of Sudbury, on the committee to preserve historic homes in Sudbury, member of and chairman of the Dennis Beach Committee. The purchase of the Mayflower Beach was accomplished during his chairmanship. On the Board of Directors of Lazy River Village, in Venice, FL, he successfully negotiated the purchase of 357 leased lots and then sold shares of the Cooperative to the owners of the Village. Mr. Leone was very active with the Sudbury Players for 20 years as an actor, director, stage manager, business manager, and as president. His entrepreneurial endeavors as owner/manager of various businesses include Countryside Ice Cream of Newton, Twin Maples Restaurant of Sudbury, Leone's Restaurant of Sudbury, Professional Recruiting of Waltham, Surf Motel of Dennisport, Larry Leone Real Estate of Dennis and Lion Mortgage Co. of South Dennis. Surviving him are 2 daughters; Lauren Yeannakopoulos and husband John of Ipswich, Lisa Leone-Blackbird and husband Frank of Seekonk, and one son, Scott Pulkkinen of Highland Lake, NY; grandchildren Nicole and Matt Serratore, Erin, Kristen and Casey Blackbird, and Krista and Erik Pulkkinen. Siblings Daniel Leone and Mickey Abruzzi. His daughter Leslie, sister Constance Cannistraro, and brothers Benjamin, Albert, James and Anthony Leone predeceased him. Relatives and friends are invited to attend viewing hours Friday, February 19th from 4-8pm at Andrew J. Magni and Son Funeral Home, 365 Watertown Street, Rt.16, NEWTON. Funeral Mass to be held at Our Lady Help of Christians Church, 575 Washington Street, Newton, on Saturday, February 20, at 10:30AM. Burial will follow at the Newton Cemetery, 791 Walnut Street, Newton Center.
