Lillian MacARTHUR Obituary

MacARTHUR, Lillian T. (MacGillivray) Of Weymouth, MA, formerly of Lexington, MA and Wolfeboro, NH, died peacefully, on December 5, 2022, following a brief illness, surrounded by her family. Beloved wife of the late William G. MacArthur. Loving mother of Carol Ann Smith and her husband Don of Weymouth, Christine MacArthur and her partner John Yerardi of Billerica, William MacArthur, Jr. and his wife Joan of Hingham, Janet Bell and her husband Jim of Weymouth, and Judith Martell and her husband Josh of Gray, ME. Devoted sister of Catherine Hooper of Lexington, and the late Margaret Vesey, Lawrence MacGillivray, Rose Kelly, and Jean Gaudet. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, John, Drew, Lauren (Michael), Brendan (Sanchi), Jillian, Jennifer, Kathryn, Abigail, Alison, and Kyle; 2 step-grandchildren, Leslie and Ben; 2 great-grandchildren, Henry and Charlie, and 3 step-great-grandchildren, Emerson, Nathan and Ian. She is also survived by many devoted nieces and nephews.

Lillian was born and raised in Lexington, remaining in her childhood home to raise her own family of five, with husband Bill. She was deeply devoted to her family, the community and Sacred Heart Church. Lillian was active within the political fabric of Lexington, as a Town Meeting Member for over two decades and as an appointed member of the Lexington Housing Authority. She also held other community leadership roles such as, co-founder of the East Lexington Community Association. She was recognized as a 1995 recipient of the Lexington Tricorne Hat for her lifelong service to the Town, an honor that was a source of immense pride throughout her life. Mom was a devout Catholic, carrying on a tradition of service started by her parents at Sacred Heart Church, serving as a Eucharistic Minister and a steward of the church's history, as well as a chairman of the Civic Involvement Committee.

Lillian will be remembered for her love of family, near and far, her witty sense of humor, her funny way of playing games with the grandkids and most of all her famous whoopie pies. And, like any New Englander, she loved her Boston Red Sox.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held Monday, December 12, at Sacred Heart Church, 16 Follen Rd. Lexington, at 11am. Visitation also on Monday, immediately prior to the Mass, at the Douglass Funeral Home, 51 Worthen Rd., LEXINGTON, from 9am to 10:45am. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Interment at Westview Cemetery, Lexington. Douglass/Customer logo

"Her Beacon"
For Lillian...

Her mother is her beacon her guiding light
she comforts the family throughout the night.
She´s the fabric that holds the thread that binds
the bloodline together she´s quite a rare find.
A pillar of strength with a will of stone
dedicated to a life she calls her own.
She supports the family, she supports the farm
throughout the good throughout the harm.
Her mother is her beacon her guiding light
she leads her through her darkest night.
Hand in hand she confirms the way
whether living next door or miles away.
Always there in full support
like a ship secure at home in port.
A comforting voice and a warm loving sight
her mother is her beacon her guiding light.
